Can't seem to FOUR link an item.

Coming in a bit late here, but the effort it can take to get even a 4L on items can be retarded as hell, been the story of my life on onslaught, every item I needed to make a 4L, I kid you not it taken at least 40 + fusing to 4L, the worst one being 79 fusing to 4L, it's gotten so bad I just about stopped bothering if I need to 4L something, it's like the sinking feeling of despair to even think about it at this point.

Just buy 4L stuff, if you have horrid RNG as above you can and will go broke trying to do it, I feel like something is wrong when that seemingly happens as much as it does on 4L'ing items. I am likely at least over 7 exalted down just trying to bloody 4L my shit on this league. I haven't even bothered trying to 5-6L cause I can't even 4L my stuff.

I can so empathise with this.

I don't even know how many Jewelers i've used trying to get over 3 SOCKETS on my shield... I shudder when I think of the Fusings i'll have to use :(

Are you serious?
I thought shields can only have 3 sockets max.

I loled, but probably a troll post
Trying to get a 4 link one one of my two searing touches will be the death of me.
IGN: Asser, AssDelver, Assphobic, AnointedAss, BetrayedByMyAss, CrackedAss, FracturedAss, FulcrumedUpMyAss, ImpaledAss, IncursionOfTheAss, WarForTheAss, UnleashTheAss, ScreamingAsshole, SwampAssKing, Yui
I used about 75 fusings and 300 armor scrabs to get my 4link, but it only took me 1 month to get them, so whatever.
4L are essential to play the game at all on higher difficulties...one can live without 5 and 6 linked items. The why is it so hard to make one? Despair that one gets from being unable to even 4L reasonably, makes the game far worse that it could be. The only way I can personally stomach this game is by making big pauses (months) between any series play. And I'm afraid there will come a time when I won't come back. Apologists may proceed writing "good riddance", just don't forget to think about that I'm not the only one. Although, its not even the fusings' fault here, its the fundamental flaw of so called barter system, that flat out doesn't work and gives birth and maximises all of the other problems (including this one). Why is it so hard for teh devs to admit that barter is a bad idea and doesn't work properly. Seriously you're like communism apologists - it works on paper, so it has to work for real. Yeah right!

5 and 6 socketing and linking is hard, costs a lot, and should be an achievement, but shouldn't be a barrier to fun. They need to make socketing, fusing, and rolling the right colors less costly. It's highly discouraging to end up dumping all your fusing/jewelers/chromes into something and not getting what you intended.
You guys will have to come to terms with this game being closer to an mmo than to an arpg and that you will have to farm just to 4l something. (Hint: Best farming spot for alterations = Merveil)
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

I made a post about this in the Suggestions forum (of course it was ignored), so I'll just copy/paste it:

"
- This next suggestion has been mentioned by a GGG dev as something that could happen. Make 4-linking easier, much easier. It's absolutely ridiculous that it can take multiple gcps worth of fusings to 4-link an item. Four-linking is so critical in terms of progress for your character and needing to spend many times double digit fusings just to go on is unbelievable. Imagine new players having to deal with that and losing all or most of their orbs fusing a 4-link. What are you guys thinking? There shouldn't even be a debate about this, just change the number in the next patch. I understand wanting 5, and especially 6-links, being harder to get because they're not critical to progress, but that's not the case with 4-links. You want people to be able to test out your awesome gem-linking system, right? How in the world has this gone on for so long? It's unbelievable, and it would have barely any effect on the economy or anything. Mark/Chris/anyone, open up Visual Basic and change the number as soon as you can. If you're worried about making it too easy, just increase it in increments and see how it plays out, but do it SOON. All this will do is help your game that we all love. Isn't that what we all want?

EDIT: Reading some of the replies it's even worse than I ever imagined, like this one:

Are you guys (GGG) serious with this? I hate to sound rude but what the fuck are you doing? Change this already.
