Update 2: Grammar Error on Close Helmet vs. Close-Helmet (image and answer)
" And, so, you're saying it is wrong and so it is wrong because you said it. Meh anyway english is my third language, so I can't really speak for a personal opinion lol Btw, from what I know, "to close" is a verb, but it doesn't really mean what you think It is more like "closing" as in "finalizing", like "let's close this affair" or maybe for a store "The store will close at X" honestly, I don't see a big problem with "close helmet" since it is a technical term and probably has been like that for centuries please retain from posting a big wall of text because it is useless at this point i like this game. i mean have you seen how powerful is the barbarian

" Alright, no wall of text. If English is not your main language like it is mine, don't bother discussing or saying anything furthermore. I am not saying it is wrong just because I said it is wrong. I am saying it is wrong because it is wrong. I am the one challenging the way the word close is being used and have room to do so for good reason. When game developers ignore the criticism that would improve their game, the game fails. Just because a game receives a great amount of praise vs. only a small amount of criticism does not mean to call it a day and make a foolish misplaced assumption that it is perfect. " lol ok, let me know. i like this game. i mean have you seen how powerful is the barbarian

" So your problem is actually with whoever named the Close Helm, not with the people who use the name. Good luck with that. |

" There is no problem. There is only a correction to be made I am pointing out to GGG who uses 'Close Helmet' as the helmet's name, and to whoever originally named the historical helmet in the first place. There is a difference between having a problem with something or someone vs. making a correction to something through discussion with other people. Just because the person who originally named this helmet is dead does not mean correction cannot be made. There are lots of words in the dictionary, etc. that have been changed or thought over to make more sense. When game developers ignore the criticism that would improve their game, the game fails. Just because a game receives a great amount of praise vs. only a small amount of criticism does not mean to call it a day and make a foolish misplaced assumption that it is perfect. " I agree if the word would be used commonly in the present. However the word is as historical as the concerning item himself. Changing it around does not suffice any needs present in the audience of GGG, I believe. |

my goodness. i can't believe this thread is still alive. i'm very impressed!
a few things HMG, and i promise i won't touch this post ever again and i won't try to convince you of something you clearly believe strongly in 1. i never meant to troll. i said i didn't think i was trolling because there was an earlier post stating that you were being trolled. while you did not state a specific name. i just wanted to make it clear i was not trolling in case you had any doubt. 2. you are talking about the name of an item (or as Rhys points out, a technical term). not a grammatical construct, but the name of an item. yes, it seems like it should be grammatical given the choice of words, but names just don't adhere to the same rules that language applies to. 3. everyone in this thread has supported their rationale with third party evidence. Ngrams, dictionary, wiki, etc. In the face of overwhelming external evidence pointing to non-hyphenated usage being fine, it is difficult for me to accept that non-hyphenated use is less right. 4. one of your posts seem to state imply we need to show that non-hyphenated use is more right than hyphenated use. that is false. we only need to show that non-hyphenated use is NOT less right since your argument is that GGG should add the hyphens. We only need to argue that they do not need to do so. anyway, good luck with pushing for the additional hyphen. I don't think the current wording is any less right than the hyphenated version, but it's not a big issue. cheers! | |

sooo someone named a helmet a couple hundred years ago.. and now you don't like the fact that it seems incorrect according to modern grammar. hm. you need a time machine my friend and talk to the guy who named it.

" Kinda of ironic. Just want to say that this is easily one of the most entertaining threads currently. Certainly more so than the tonnes of "Razor Footprints ERMAHGERD!@%" threads in General. :p |
