Uniques need to focus on Late/Endgame
" Scaling uniques are fine, but they should not scale with character level. They should scale to the level in which they dropped. Aka if you find an asenath's mark at level 10, it should have level 10 stats, but if you want one with level 70 stats, it needs to be item level 70. Edit: Actually both need to be somehow capped by the item level, else you end up with full sets of uniques that last the player the entire game. This is a no no in an item drop based game. the OP explicitly wants uniques which last the entire game (that's what dropping early and being late-game viable means). You want the opposite. I can't please both.
But if I have to pick one, I'd please OP. Why? Let's put it this way: when I started my most recent character I decided to have a strong MF foccus, so I traded for a cheap Perandus Blazon. I don't intend to use any other belt ever; I might find sweet IIQ+IIR gloves, but those affixes don't roll on belts, plus it has a resist and the all attributes really helps my build. But I still need a better belt; 9% IIQ isn't as good as 12. Self-found another one; might use it soon, but it's only +21 all attributes and I'd be unable to use my gear without a respec. So I have that endgame unique, and I'm still looking for an upgrade. Now something like Kaom's Heart with zero random mods? Totally agree that it's bad design. But I didn't make that mistake, so your argument is ultimately invalid. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Your circlet is insanely strong.

" The reason people don't use it is because there are better uniques for late-game, but converted dmg is exceptionally powerful with weapon elemental damage. It's certainly late-game viable IMO if you don't want to shell out for a thunderfist. It could do with some aspd though, I agree. " Agreed. Some people might really like maxing their aspd though, say for Explosive arrow (yeah I know, full-life explosive arrow, but anyway...), and are willing to take a survivability hit to do it. I'm not saying it's OP, or even P. I'm just saying it has a potential niche use at end-game. "Yes I definitely agree with this part. No reason why hrimsorrow, al dinh etc.. couldn't be buffed so they're not so lame. They're not even very good early-game compared to some of the 'super-uniques'. Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

" Unless you sit there and keep dying on purpose in cruel, you're going to spend most of your time in 'endgame'. All the actual 'hardcore' players spend orders of magnitude more time in endgame than they do levels 1-60. So if this game is supposed to cater to 'hardcore' players, why should anyone "get their head off their 'endgame is all' ass"? |

Because many players enjoy leveling new builds and trying new things out. This is precisely why I dont like the idea of certain uniques not dropping. I may find a thousand ribbons chest in a map while finishing my current character, and wish to try a new build that starts out with one.

" I don't think anyone said that they shouldn't drop at all in high level. In fact, it's the opposite, you're supposed to have some high ilvl lower uniques so you can potentially 6l them. The point is that you shouldn't see 100 Karui Wards before you see ONE usable unique at high level. That's how it is now. |

" Not just better uniques - your average pair of rare gloves with life/ES and a few decent resists or damage mods is going to be better. While you don't have the conversion, most conversion you'd need you're getting from other, less limiting sources. I honestly can't think of a build who would rather use Hrimsorrow than a decent rare. Any build with a significant conversion requirement (say, elemental bow with Lioneye's) has a better way of getting it. It's a niche which is filled, and wouldn't be worth filling at that cost anyways. " It could do with not being so crap. Make it add rather than convert. Give it attack speed. Make it so that people consider, "Okay, I have these EV gloves with no defensive stats, do I still want to use them?" " Potential. Not actual. Not a single full-life build cares so much about aspd enough to make those gloves worthwhile as is. Retool them as a mid-game or late-game unique. Because as is, they're terrible. Vendor trash. " Well that's a part of the OP: we don't need Hrimsorrow early-game; we have Sadima's and Silverbranch, which basically absolves the need for any further low-level twink uniques for similar slots. Give us one decent caster twink, and we're pretty much done already. We don't need any other twink gloves or twink chests. We're set. Luna's Blackguards - a guild of bronies - is now recruiting! " And then you use it for all of half an hour (which you pretty much could have run naked with just your weapon, glove, and off-hand slots filled), and then what? " I wish they would add this type of mod, as it would vastly increase the level range that items could be viable over, as well as smoothing the power curve over some things (e.g. facebreakers.) |
