We were very pleased with how the season went, especially Descent, which was definitely worth its development time.

..really? The vast majority of comments/discussion I've seen/heard on Descent has been very negative. It clearly wasn't tested properly, and for most of the feedback points that Chris claimed it was designed on, it actually has the opposite of. The number of characters created per race has also massively plummeted.

Seems like just another huge disconnect between devs/players.

Id like to know where the "very pleased" with descent comes from too.

10,000 players in the first descent event, around 500-750 players in the more recent descent events. Success would have meant an increase in attendance, or at the worst a slight decline, not a 90%~ attrition rate over the first few events.

Presented as a mode with far less randomness than standard races, where a top racer could execute a single highly skilled run and potentially keep the #1 spot for the entire season, descent actually ended up being so random that setting a season record has proven to be all about grinding as many events as possible, as success is almost entirely dependent on finding rare drop-only gems or early damage/life gear since we could no longer use vendors to mitigate poor drops, as well as getting lucky with champion density in specific zones since we could no longer repeat areas to mitigate poor spawns.

Almost a full page of descent feedback threads in the race subforum, mostly critical or negative, with zero dev replies to date. The mode has also been left in its original, unbalanced/untested state for the entire season.

Huge disconnect between devs/players indeed. Or is there some major criteria for descent being considered successful that were missing here?

Despite the several issues I have with Descent. I still think it was worth their development time. It's fun and different. Honestly, I got incredibly sick and tired of racing from the beach over and over and over again. Shit's boring :)

I do have issues with the mode, as you know. But considering they now have the mode setup and can tweak whatever they want, when they want. I'm still happy it was made.
I had a lot of fun in the Descent races, but I only got to run a handful. I got 22 season points off of it (can't remember the exact number of events I ran), when I got 0 from season 2. However, I gave up on running Descent races at all because the schedule was so poor I was lucky to run 2 a week. Then there was a gap of an entire week + before I could run another and just said fuck it, not worth the wait.

I would love to see a more solid implementation of Descent, and if they become more available next season I'll likely participate a lot more. The rng did really suck, but I'm so used to it at this point it didn't really matter to me. Hopefully season 4 will let me do more than 2 races a week, but I've been re-engaged with end game content so who knows if I'll bother.

Keep up the good work GGG, can't wait to see what future patches and the release will hold for us. It's been great watching this game evolve. I think I need to upgrade my support pack soon :)
New properties on upcoming 4-month leagues? Cool!
