PoE vs Diablo 2 - Why D2 is still better

The fact that it has to be argued whether D2 or PoE is better is such a great problem to have honestly. Two amazing games.

This is why I will disregard you post. Hopefully you'll understand.
" You just contradicted yourself by telling them to remove variety to finding the best items. For example, higher ilvl searing touch vs low level = big difference and more reason to try to find items as higher ilvls. You: "No, you can't have that item with 4 sockets, you must have 1" Others: "But then, it's fairly useless and I'd rather use something else" Result: Variety destroyed. Finding the unique at a higher level becomes useless. Thanks for the great idea! " In other words: "Just let me start at level 70." BTW, I got to level 40ish in about 5 hours of playing. Give or take. And I'm playing safe. Last edited by XeroJin#0336 on Jul 29, 2013, 3:57:10 PM

Absolutely POINTLESS discussion. Close this thread plse. We dont get any further discussing the same things over and over and over again, saying mondays are better than tuedays are better then wednesdays. Im defenitely sick of this.

Agreed, this topic sucks. D2 was good, but PoE is now.

Yeah they were both good games so can we close this?

I disagree I think this is a very valid thread and would like to see it stay open.
POE is a great game but can easily improve and why not look at the highest rated game from type of game we are playing D2. POE is not done I know this but in its current state D2 was better at doing these below. 1. D2 had different types of things to do which gave a different feel to the game. 2. D2 drops weren't so rare, and the game wasen't catered to 24/7 players as much POE. 3. The game wasent this hard, and catered to 24/7 players. 1.D2 had 3 different types of things to do, POE has 1. Lving/Laddering: Both games have this and POE's end game is well done, small balancing should fix this. PVP/PK: D2 had both pking and pvp, POE currently has nothing worth playing. I would like to see a pvp ladder system set up with a ranking system. Pking is to much to ask for as much I wish we could have it maybe a full cutthroat league will happen one day. MFing: D2 Mfing was more like gambling then it was grinding. Your runs where so fast and so care free it was more like playing a slot machine then playing the game. I liked this different feel and change of pace, POE combines mfing with playing and feels the same. 2. D2 uniques where overall better from the start up. I would play POE for weeks a couple hrs a day and not find 1 single upgrade. In D2 at least I found a couple good things on the way like an soj, a ravenfrost, a string of ears, even though no tals armor, storm shield, or wind force dropped. POE I play for months and have 4 Exualted orbs when the top players and cheaters have 100's... The crafting system can only be experience if you are the top 5% of rich players, otherwise spending anything passed a chaos is going to normally be trash and a a waste. 3. POE is to hard. Not to hard that it cant be beat, I play HC and have died once only since starting in OB. What I mean is I believe the difficulty in the game is what causes certain builds to stand out so strongly. It is why melee has had such a hard time, and why people still mainly all go ranged mf builds, or the current kripp build... D2 had more builds because people didn't take as much notice. who cares if you have more dps when we both kill stuff in 1 hit? Why should a game be hard after you have beat it and put 5X the amount of time farming after that point? who cares if you are a better tank then me if i can tank everything in the game? people stop caring so much when it isn't such a strong point. |

Dude, what you seriosly forgot is the fact, that D2 in the last years was so much after 11.0 a RW with duped Highrunes Game! That was why people were so strong. All these Infinities and other High Rws crashed the whole idea of the game. Absolutely NO balance in this game! I mean teleporting melees over a map?? Ridiculos! Making it without RWS thru Mobs with Elemental Resist was almost impossible!! Even lets say with a WW Barb and IKset u could go there. the whole discusion sucks, because you ignore the fact, that playing D2 was playing massively with duped Runes from people that were boting. Tell me about it, ive been a serios part of the Bnetcomm over 10 years, i know what im talking about.
So...nevertheless...this discussion leads to None!! |

" I didn't expect this much discussion. However, this seems like a good place to start in responding, after this statement of course : This is a valid discussion. If you couldn't figure it out yourself (and honestly, after years on the D3 forums I understand that the majority of players here are clueless), this is an argument about the fundamental draw of ARPG games. I believe that collecting currency is THE END game of ARPGs. I also would go so far as to say that this is non-debatable. WoW! Strong words aye? The undeniable disagreement this statement spawns is most likely 100% from people who don't play enough. I played d2 for 10 years. I understand what the end game is. Its not playing the same 3/4 acts 100 times in a row. It's not leveling to 70 for 50 characters. Its about 'collecting' characters with different builds. These builds typically require different items, which makes items currency important. To keep replay value up, collecting currency becomes the primary draw to loading up the game each day. that is an ARPG in a nutshell. in summary...its collecting currency to outfit different toons and to generally, 'feel rich' I choose this reply specifically to start my responses because it embodies the type of gamer that doesn't really get it. Diablo existed prior to high runes and enigma. The main point of the game was to get better gear and raise efficiency in farming the highest level areas. Yes, I agree that enigma and hammerdins and the overall flood of duped HRs made it a bit too easy, but that's not my argument. I said that uniques need to act as the "archway" into magic finding. Certain rather easy to obtain uniques (unique in this case being defined as, 'specifically crafted by the dev') should provide the necessary stats to enter and farm areas of the game meant for farming. In the case of PoE -> level 66 docks. Low end uniques should be created that all players look for. This also acts as a gateway into trading, as they become standard trading fodder because everyone wants them. Things like D2's skullders ire, goldwrap, chance gloves, shako, etc. Those items should NOT get you through A3 meph (lvl 75+ map), they should however, assuming you obtained them all, get you through 66maps with little trouble and provide decent IIQ and IIR. If you do decide to respond to this thread, do so through the eyes of a dev, not a player. |

I made friends quickly in D2 because of the trade system, here it doesn't feel the same, it feels wrong so I play alone.
Even D2 has that rare screenshot of the guild hall, not even basic guild functionality here, yet we have these player segregating leagues no one asked for. |
