The Holy Grail against Reflect

Life leech applies instantly.
Cannot regenerate life.
Energy shield recovery delay is tripled.

It could be 10x more ES recovery delay and it still wouldn't matter.Energy Shield delay has been tossed out the window for quite a while now ever since ES has been transformed into the superior defense over life.
The no regen downside of vaal pact for life is too harsh. It's close to maruder, templar and duelist - melee archetypes, but almost no mele archetypes use it because the downside is too large, because of desync. Should be at least on par with es, because melee desync and don't leach=dead. With 6k es you don't even need vaal pact. With 10k es it's meh - skill points can be used better. It's funny that life is weaker than es, while es is a delicate caster life pool. MEH.

This has no effect against reflect. Reflect comes from your own accuracy and damage hitting your own defenses. The monster's accuracy or damage is irrelevant.

add 30-50% chance for evade, ondar's guile

These will have a very minimal effect too unless your own accuracy is total garbage + your evasion is insanely high.

It's less than some might expect, but it's still something; a level 73 player with a statsheet 94% chance to hit and 48% chance to evade would have a chance to evade themselves of 12%, which Guile would double to 24% for projectiles. That's a 16% EHP increase against reflected damage, more than you'd get from any life node.

Lower the player's statsheet chance to hit to 90%, and it's a 19% chance to evade self, upped to 38% for projectiles, which is a 31% EHP increase vs reflect.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

and if one playing with arrow they can lower their accuracy even more and rely heavily on Curse Projectile Weakness. http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Projectile_Weakness
sucks for curse immune, but rares is not that hard to kill anyway.
Reflect on itself is fine, Diablo 2 monsters also have it.

Reflect just exposes the fact that armor by itself sucks.

reflect in d2 was nowhere near awfull like it is in POE since diablo 2 had direct leech which was not limited to your own life pool percentage recovery

imagine vaal pact without the downsides for life builds that was exacttly how d2 was

plus in d2 every character could stack their walls of defense without much problems:

- damage reduction % from items like stormshield
- max block 75%
- life
- armor which worked like evasion here
- and resist
- and if sorc you additionally could go for energy shield

In diablo 2 all characters just had items with "defense" on it :D.

With Energy shield and Evasion things are a little different and also defensive balance might actually be better if it was not balanced so to speak. I think that a melee's defense should actually be stronger than defense on a ranged character.

Now I think of it the reflect in D2 I was thinking of was actually a curse called Iron Maiden, that was the dangerous reflect in my experience.

A curse would be a lot better instead of a permanent aura, you could just use a life potion with remove curse and also curses are easier to notice.

if im not mistaken iron maiden didnt work for spells or ranged attacks just for melee and iron maiden monsters only was in chaos sanktum and on the way to baal.

no barb with some experience tried to whirlwind into a pack of this iron maiden casting skeleton mages

edit: also if i remember correctly pretty late in the patch life of diablo 2 iron maiden got removed form those monsters
