Is this thread an attempt to mock the threads about whether the quality of our community is going to decline? So hostile and rude. It is possible to discuss a game mechanic without insults.. i think. And holy-hyperbole Batman.
This seems like a mistake people would only make once. It's unfortunate if that is in hardcore. While I don't think anyone should demand it be fixed, I also don't think anyone should call it "carebear" for being fixed. Rude. I think the same people that have that attitude are the ones in global chat that answer every question with "press alt+f4" (which should be bannable in my opinion, grow up.) I don't care if it stays or goes. I think this discussion is more of an issue than the mechanic itself. " There's no question that the community will decline if PoE becomes as popular as we all want it to be. The vast majority of the online gamer playerbase nowadays are the CoD kiddies that sling the word faggot around like it's going out of style (which it is). On-topic: I think this mechanic is fine as is. It's not a question of being "elitist" or "anti-beginner" because I am probably still technically a beginner at PoE. I suppose it's possible that if I hadn't read this thread I would have made the same mistake as the OP, assuming that he did it on purpose. If he clicked the flask by accident...I feel for him. But it still shouldn't be changed. Maybe make flasks unusable in towns, like spells, so that something like this can't happen by accident. But if you've taken Chaos Inoculation you are accepting the fact that you will only have 1 life. The immunity to Chaos means that Energy Shield will protect you most of the time, but doesn't give you an excuse to forget that if you do anything that affects your life total, you will die. This should include flasks and blood magic. Last edited by ZasZ314#6254 on Aug 8, 2012, 12:19:09 PM

That is stupid, I don't know why people are saying it is fine. What game would have such a mechanic in place on purpose? Anyways I guess that is why there is a beta to find things like this.

For people who say the feature is fine: You know about it, so you'll probably never do it. It has zero effect on you (and in a way doesn't exist in your version of PoE - like many have said, "Why even equip Caustic Flask with CI?").
On the other hand: It's destructive for other people's game experience if they don't know about it. Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up the age-old foundations. And you will be called Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of the Streets in Which to Dwell. Last edited by norent#5770 on Aug 8, 2012, 1:11:16 PM

I loved this thread.
10/10 Would read again. |

" Not well enough, as reported by GGG here: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/39887 "We've discussed this recently because of the massive number of CI + Caustic bug reports we get :P We haven't decided on a solution yet though." "Massive number" being the key here. People are learning about the relationship between CI and Caustic the wrong way. Edit: To clarify, I'm fine with this mechanic because I was able to decipher what Caustic means by the text. My stance is that it needs to be conveyed better, and barring that, changed. Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up the age-old foundations. And you will be called Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of the Streets in Which to Dwell. " I'm OK with the inability to read being destructive for other people's game experience. If the issue is people accidentally clicking the flask while they are in town, I get that. Make flasks unusable in town, not unlike spells. If the issue is people failing to read what their abilities/items do before they use them, there should be absolutely no hand-holding when it comes to the consequences of those actions. If the text explaining the effects of the flask needs to be clarified, that's fine. If you need to put a disclaimer on Chaos Inoculation that reiterates the fact that if you lose your 1 HP for any reason, you will die (even though that shouldn't be necessary) that's fine. I'd rather them not put a disclaimer on every single ability/skill this applies to, but even that would be better than just flat-out not allowing "blood" effects to kill your character if you get lazy or stop paying attention. |

" I have to say I agree with obsivus on this point: Flasks should not "recover" anything if there is nothing to be recovered! ex. you have 100/100 hp you use flask which recovers 50 hp. flask does nothing. because you can't recover what you haven't lost. makes sense. if the flask recovered 50 hp even while you have 100/100hp that wouldn't make sense - not just from a logical standpoint, but from a mechanical one as well. you can't add more water to a glass than what that glass can hold. now, if you want to take that analogy one step further for your argument and say, "well you can but it just runs over" - but then you're still not adding it to the glass are you? and if there was some type of beneficial "spill over" effect if you use a flask when you have nothing to recover, then I could maybe see it making sense from a game balance point of view... but currently that's not the case.
