I want to point out that the idea of the loot timer itself is flawed.
When somebody says: "we want a competitive loot system because it makes the game more fun" he has his claim and might be right, but why is there a timer then? This is actually completly against the idea of a FFA loot system. It makes no sense at all, its some kind of a mess of an idea. People ask for longer timer, but this clearly shows, that the system itself is trash. If the timer where so long that you have a 100% chance to get the item which is allocated to you, why keep the system in the first place? Wouldnt it then be better to go for the instanced loot which does not have the problems of "global loot": -no mess on the screen -100% solo/party balance, because the amount of items is fixed for each player(currently you profit from having access to a bigger itempool what harms soloplay compared to party) -no interaction with builds. Why should have ranged builds have a disadvantage through lootsystem? If ranged is OP then introduce game mechanics which balance it rather then gimp a class by a broken game mechanic I have to admit that I am pretty upset that GGG went this path for FFA loot. I can not understand it at all. I dont want to underestimated their reasoning behind their decision but though I try really hard to understand FFA loot I absolutly despise it and cant imagine at all that it will benefit the game. I think they just try to make their game special by having a "pseudo hardcore/cutthroat" mechanic in their game but this is not the right way to go. Sometimes I really wonder that people actually want "their" game to suck in order to feel like something better. In the long term, instanced loot will be the best solution. 100% sure. PS.:To give my opinion some weight I want to point out that I am currently in plus of ninjaing: 2 exalteds(!!!) and 2 GCPs but I am no crykid which makes up its worthless opinion according to its own benefit. |

Hate it hate hate it.
You guys can argue back and forth all day why or why not change it. But I for one am tired of getting items taken from me and not being able to prove it. Its not fair that i can do just as much killing and then when all my hard work is done, someone else can just swipe my drop while im walking to it, or killing another mob they were ignoring. |

" I completely disagree with instanced loot being the best solution. That said, I completely agree with everything you're expressing about the current looting system. The problem with FFA and loot timer is that if the timer is short, then the guy with the least lag gets first crack at the loot, and also gets the most loot. If the timer is long, then it's not really FFA, anymore, it's just randomly distributed drops with occasional lost drops for players whose latency is above a certain threshold. This is exactly why I'm of the opinion that GGG has no clue how to design a game. |

"I'm not entirely sure whether GGG is wholeheartedly for FFA, since Chris has admitted that there is some "internal discussion" going on on the loot subject. And yes, making loot options available to game makers would be both conciliatory, and a valid experiment in diversifying the game. In my opinion both unitary systems (FFA vs. instanced) have their advantages, but also their drawbacks. I've played games with one, and with the other, but never with BOTH, depending on players' choice. For me, it would make the game experience more interesting, and maybe just get me to buy a new computer, so I can enjoy PoE even more. |
