Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
I am perfectly aware of the advantages and the reasoning behind the current loot system however I would still prefer and have a much better gameplay experience if all loot was instanced.
1) Items in parties take up the whole screen. Having to micro manage the show loot button is annoying and does not help much. 2) Some of the most valuable items are completely FFA at the moment, giving a huge advantage to melee classes. I know melee classes have their disadvantages but those are a completely different issue and should not be compensated by being favored with loot. Personally I will never keep playing any ARPG no matter how good if party playing is not viable or if the party experience is bad. Also, playing concentrated and alert doesn't have anything to do with the cut-throat loot system but rather is a requirement for being effective in every ARGP. I love the new loot system. People bitch so much less now and there's much less squabbling.

" It's funny really. People bitch less since they can't prove they were 'stolen' from. I personally think the current system is good for public groups. But for friend groups it's quite bad since gentleman's rules for offscreen drops are basically impossible. Also, funnily enough, I personally lose a lot more currency these days in full public groups since 'your items' no longer take a bigger screen share and have no moving timer so they're actually way harder to spot from between all wisdom scrolls and white items than before. Don't really say it's bad or anything but it is sort of funny :) |

FFA matches the theme of the game. Keep it as is.

Why not just let the leader choose between FFA & 30 second locked items to players, its simple stuff.

" I think this would divide the player base too much. There are people who like FFA and people who hate it, and they would almost exclusively want to do "their" type of game. I'm normally one for giving people options to play how they wanna play, but ultimately a game has to have a clear vision and not try to be everything to everyone, or it becomes a water downed bland mess. I think the current system is fine. Is it perfect? Eh, debatebale, you could make tweeks to it, but it accomplishes the main purpose. The loot that drops is for EVERYONE, for the whole party. That's how it's designed and envisioned and the current system communicates that, while accounting for things like latency and distance due to the "head start" timer. |

" Player base is already horribly divided between melee and ranged of which only one group can seriously compete with the other. Should we get rid of melee or ranged also to level the playing field? Or maybe it's better there actually is an OPTION to play melee even though it's widely considered to be a stupid move? :) |

I respect GGG and the remarkable accomplishments for such a small team, so i want anyone that reads this to know i say it with the best intentions and utmost respect.
The loot system is flawed. clearly its a dead horse that continues to get beatin, but as GGG uses feedback to create a better game, i will give my own. I've noticed people saying "it matches the feel of the game". No, no it doesnt. As i understand GGG wants to make the looting process competitive, this is a joke. Being the first person to run over the dead body of a mob and quick click anything other then blue or white before the other people (before you even know what the gear is) is hardly "competitive", its lame and it promotes ninjas and solo play. so an attempted "fix" was to put a delay on some loot depending on the situation of some characters. All this simply does is allow people to hover over a dead body frantically clicking a grey item before it turns yellow....again, hardly competitive. not only that, but a split second of desync or lag shouldnt determine if you get to be apart of the looting process. I hate to say it, but blizzard has loot down pretty good, not perfect but good....need before greed or separate loot tables.....since 80% of this game is based off the diablo franchise in terms of feel, mechanics, gameplay, tetris loot squares, etc, it may not hurt to take one more que from blizzard to eliminate this problem. and if you say this game is nothing like diablo and blizzard has nothing to do with this then you're being naive. lets face it, everyone hates ninjas, and group play loot is nothing but ninja. so lets fix this and move on. |

" Not what he's talking about. He's talking about both game types having two essentially distinct communities. This is why I prefer a slider option that varies between something like a 0-1 second timer and a 8-10 second timer. With the gradual change, people will find a range of values that they're most comfortable with, as opposed to a single specific setting that they look for. As a result, someone who wants pure FFA will probably never play with someone who likes long timers, but there's little loss there since they probably wouldn't want to play with one another in the first place. On the other hand, someone who likes 3 second timers and someone who likes 5 second timers will probably play together in a game with 4 second timers, since the game is "close enough" to the preferences of each of them, so there's no clear division of the community. |

My feedback: I don't like FFA loot. It takes away from a cooperative environment unless you play with group. Not all of us have friends that play this game. You should not have to be "good" at gathering loot. That is not a mechanic in the game that should need practice. Please extend loot timers further and/or allow players to pass through each other so people cant block you out from your loot. I would probably play in groups if I didn't feel like I had to rush items every time they drop instead of helping the group and looting when it's appropriate. This is my feedback. It is not for anyone else on this thread because I don't care about what they think. If someone at GGG reads this then good, they should hear what each person has to say.
