Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

I really hate what they have done with this looting system in last patch. Before it was easy to see which item is yours and which one is of some one else.

Example: I play with a friend like 90% and we do maps. SO when we face harder groups we spam skills and loot starts to drop on ground. Before we could see timers on items cause they "jumped" out and we knew which item is whose. Now all we see is items poping and no idea whos is it, if we don't pick it fast other person does not know, is this a fresh loot or is it "old one" that other person did not pick up yet.

Bring an option ingame that can be swiched to ppl's liking, as it is now it SUX hard. I play with trusted ppl and we kill mobs 1st, loot 2nd. Now when we kill all and half of the time we have no idea whos loot is it, before it was much easyer.

PLZ change it as it was. TY

I was thinking (as I am in a similar position to xSiCKHeADx in which I play a lot with a friend), it isn't so much an issue of having it on the screen for longer (usually there are so many mobs to kill when the timer runs out it was going to happen whether it's 10 or 50 seconds long)... it's a matter of knowing who they were meant for.

To that effect I propose logging the drops in a separate window from chat (think a tab behind normal chat) with the intended recipient indicated.

This wouldn't change anything about the current functionality but it would make it clear what dropped for whom.

As it stands we usually just split it by whomever could use it, then just whomever has space (for blues).
I totally agree with xSiCKHeADx and aviansun.

Before this change the loot system sucked for public parties. Now it also sucks for private parties.

I exclusively party with guild-mates.
Our guild-policy for currency drops was that the person whose name is on the item gets the item. Now we have to "roll" for currency since it's impossible to see what was yours in large battles. This is annoying and time consuming.

What we need are some loot options settable by the party-leader.

Please stop botching the loot-system.
I beat cruel, ruthless and merciless and all I got were some maps.
XBone: the beginning of the end.
Whats the point of farming in the docks or playing with other players now since you cant ninja? This game is dying and everyone I know already quit because of the new loot system, makes this game EXTREMELY boring, what a shame

And the dev's called themselves hardcore diablo 2 players? LOL'd.

GGG hates loot to name...you will never get it...never. Unless you guys all stop playing until they introduce options. If you whine but carry on playing, your voice counts for nothing because they hardly care about the 800 page long thread labeled "thrash can" in their office

By the way, we're definitely listening to vocal feedback on topics like loot allocation. While we haven't said anything in the last few days, there is a lot of discussion occurring internally about various options for those systems. I'll post more once there's more information.

cool story....every patch that they did moves the game further and further away from loot to name. In fact there isn't even names anymore. You can carry on dreaming if you want...
Barring options,

If a "cut-throat" mechanism and player tension is something the dev must have in the game then I'd prefer:

Allocate all items to players (show name), but anyone can pick up anything, allowing them to ignore the allocation indicator, no timer no nothing.

Friends and friendly folks can play with an automated allocation aid. Others can pretend to abide to an honor system until something really nice drops before stealing it from the ranged character. And if a party wants to play free for all, or "who can fuk each other harder" they can.

I want to share a simple experience I had in a pub group the other day. I think it speaks a lot of how bad the loot system is for the game.

So I was farming docks with randoms. Of course a lot of ninjaing attempts were going on from everyone. Then, a MAP (!!!) droped. I spoted it first, click click click... I got it just as the person who's droped it was was closing in.

He didn't say a word, he just left the party. I would have given it to him if he had stayed and QQed (I'm not short on maps). Tried to message him, he had logged off. He was probably mad, given how rare maps drops are. I fully sympathies with him.

This is how bad the loot system is for the morale of players in the game. It made me feel bad, it made the victim mad, but how can I not ninja stuff when everyone does it to me?

Just wondering what makes you think it was his? Even tho, the game is clearly FFA.

But even if it was 'his'. How did you know it wasn't anyone elses? Since there is no name. For all you know he could have lagged out and you are just assuiming things.

And what the hell is a ninja attempt? You make it sound as if people shouldn't be picking up drops just because of some chance timer. Just playing the game as is does not make anyone a ninja.

If you can loot something without doing ANYTHING in regards to earning it by simply being nearby, it's "ninja-ing"

The argument that "it's not yours til you take it" is like saying "that oxygen isn't yours til you breathe it" then sticking a plastic bag over your head and laughing as you choke.

sorry but I'm an "lets give folks the option to avoid the drama" kinda guy, no reason not to be, when I see people defending FFA loot I immediately think

It's just... sure you're ENTITLED (lol) to think that looting is fine, you're ENTITLED to want it, but you shouldn't be ENTITLED to force it on others if ya get me?

Always find it ironic when entitlement is tossed at the instanced loot supporters, when really the same claim can be made towards everyone if you think about it.
Hmmm...
