An allocation time more on the order of 5 seconds may be more reasonable.

The idea is that there's still an adrenaline rush and that the player has to be alert and aware of what items are dropping.

This is a fundamentally broken design. The "idea" in which you speak of, will never satisfy the majority of the player base.

It is a nice thought, but you have to realize that theorized ideas do not always work out the way you want.

Most loot in the game is garbage vendor trash, which already removes the "adrenaline" rush of gear drops. Now you add a silly 1.6 second timer to allow people to "fairly" loot the item. When all it does is give the illusion that the item belongs to them, so they feel cheated when the timer runs out because they are busy killing the Rare monster, and someone else takes it.

While you have since increased the timer, which is a good step, it is still probably too short.

The key here is finding a balance between "long enough to be fair" and "short enough to instill importance and pace" when clearing a map.

Trying to evoke an emotion which is not there to begin with, is not the way to accomplish this task.

I would make the timer like 3.5 seconds + bonus, I would hide the name of the object to other players until its timer has ran out. This prevents people from running over and camping an object that wasn't assigned to them. If the timer runs out, fair enough, finders keepers you were too slow to get the item, anyone who happens to see it can grab it.

Play how you want to play then... No ones stopping you.

If there is no choice to configure an instance regarding drops, then there is something stopping us, namely, the game's mechanics. If the game is biased towards FFA looters, that's not that fair towards people who just want to share .

Wait... Let me get this straight.

You can't share on your own?

And to top it off you want GGG to make some sort of NANNY option for this?

How does that even make sense to you?

I do share on my own, always have, always will, regardless of my own strength, luck, loot, MF/rarity or whatever. In D2 and otherwise.
But I can see the point in making perm allocation optional. You can call it "NANNY" or "Perm loot" or whatever. But there are reasons outside purely game-economical ones for making this option available - I stated one above, You can look it up if You want.

Of course, I would like GGG to implement such an option ("would like" carries a slightly different meaning than "want"), but I won't go into a fit if they don't because it's ultimately up to them. I can understand why people don't want loot to be perm allocated (and I'm far from saying they're all ninjas, or even worse, hack users), I just don't agree that Yours is the only viable option. End of story.

Straight enough for You?

This show is amazing. What season is this? 8?

I believe that by answering mine you will have the answer to yours
give it a shot.

No. Sorry, you are not being as clever as you think.
So stop acting retarded and just answer my question.

NOBODY did public farm games.

You are wrong about that, everyone did public farm games. Mainly Baal runs. The loot was FFA. And the weird thing was, there was no 900 page post on bnet forum about the FFA loot. But it's now a different generation of gamers I guess.
In fact, public Baal runs were not for MF, they were for exp, especially after 1.11. As for the 900+ pages threads on loot allocation - indeed, there weren't such as far as I remember, but there were many more equally long with discussion on hacks (incl. grab hacks), dupes, and similar stuff.

And take a break with those ad hominem attacks, please. You don't know how long people You're writing to or about have been into this genre of games, nor, indeed, what generation they belong to.

What are you talking about? You are one of the people causing all the drama in this thread.
try posing a reasonable question and you might get your answer.

Here is one, what do FFA supporters have to lose with loot options? (other than people to grief)

which is what everyone in poe does
what kind of retard would try and farm items in a public game?

either get some friends or stack quality/quantity and solo like every other game before this that no one complained about.

WHY should the game be designed so that if you try to farm items in a public game you are branded a retard?

Your not getting an answer becasue the entire premise of the question is faulty. Only stupid kids label others for retards for something like that and no one cares what stupid kids think. I farm in a group we share the loot we think someone might benefit from(sometimes). We pick up what we can and that's it. I also farm solo from time to time. I generally get more and better drops in a group despite the fact I don't always get an item that's tagged for me. In my opinion its actually stupid thinking you'll get more drops farming solo. It really boils down to you being selfish. even if its a public game I always come out with more useful loot than I do solo. You guys just see someone pick up an item that was marked as yours and scream like a bunch of girls. I'm no pro player and I miss a lot of loot but drop rates suck playing by yourself so even if you get the occasional drop stolen you still come out on top. just play the game instead of crying and you will see I am right.
