discriminating based on latency is regionally biased and suggestive of pay 2 win except only a portion of the population is even able to purchase such a connection (no FiOS available where I live for example). Ballers as you describe are just ninjas, but maybe thats why you were exiled here.
FPS games, the ones where it really matters, don't do anything about it. Why should PoE? I agree that it sucks when you have a higher latency, but don't go changing the game over it. You don't have to play in groups.

is the game for you combat or looting or both? because I signed up for an action RPG not a FPS or click race.

Just another example of a brainwashed cultist who thinks clicking is competition and on top of it he think he's hardcore at that.
Comedy at its best ;)

You shouldn't have picked such a hardcore title then, or should just stay out of multiplayer.

As a new player and ranger main, I wouldn't complain if there were no timers. The enjoyment of competition of no timers would more than compensate for the 'unfairness' with latency and range.
Put your fleshlights away and pay attention.
But if there must be timers, definitely take these carebears' name off of them, because I'm going to be taking the slow neckbeards' loot regardless.
Also, filter 'no ninja' out of game names, imo. It's an embarrassment to the game to see the game list covered with it.
community is trying to fix their game....the FFA system is an embarrassment to the game NOT they way community is try to "fix" it....
if loot system was perfect then noone would try to fix it, thus no need for a 800pages thread and half the party noticeboard stating "loot rules"
get some facts straight please

talk more non sense please
if your fact and line of FFA defence is that we are carebears and we want to turn that into d3 i will have to remind you that no matter what you believe chief developer says

Several legitimate problems with free-for-all looting were raised:
- Ranged players are unable to get to the items in time.
- Items might just get scooped up by one player with substantially lower latency than the other players.
What do you guys think about this suggestion? Please don't just post "allocated sucks", or "I won't play if it's free-for-all".
now get some facts, cause for the devs we are not carebears but we have LEGITIMATE problems.....
When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

can you define hardcore please? are you playing in scrubcore league?
do you have brain to use ?
i have to remind you since you are clueless that PoE is the easiest game and a complete faceroll for a party with friends...and you do not fight for loot with your friends and the mobs do not scale in %dmg with more people....win win if you have friends the problem is in the public groups ONLY.
When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

Co-op is easy mode. If you want to play hardcore play solo.

It's actually 800 pages of feedback and constructive criticism. See page 1. Get your facts straight; please.

Using your logic, you don't have to play with alternative loot systems. How nice would it be to have FFA return to not having timers and the 'carebears' will enjoy having instanced loot available to them AT THE SAME TIME!

How will it slow it down? it's not like you have to wait for the timer if your name is on it.
It would have no place in FFA, even the current timers don't even have a place in FFA, but are merely there to compensate for lag that people suffer and reaction/travel time needed. If someone forgot to pick up an item or didn't see an item due to not paying attention, someone would have to wait an extremely long time to pick it up.
GGG wants people to pay attention with the risk of losing out on loot if you don't, not? Increasing the timers, would make it require no effort whatsoever to "always" get your loot and can not be considered FFA in the least.
Making it an option would solve it, but I'm against adding more loot-options to appease every type of player, which will split up the playerbase even more than it already is. Removing names from loot, while still assigning it to a random player, would be a good fix in my opinion, plus minimizing the pathing and player collision issues that people have.
You still haven't told me how it will slow it down.
Actually "reading" my post would help. (I bolded it for you.)
People will wait for loot if the timer is within an acceptable range, until the timer is set to so long that it's unbeareable and at that point, it won't be FFA in any sort of way anymore.
You can preach about longer timers all you want, it's not going to happen in a FFA setting, not even in the pseudo ffa we have now.
The timers are meant to compensate for any sort of lag and distance traveling, while still being acceptable in means of needing to pay attention, as such giving others an opportunity to get "your" item if you don't pay attention.
