Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

I'm for the option option. The current system is nice to distribute loot amongst players but it's just totally broken when it comes to ffa. the kid with faster casting+warp can just tp around scooping up all the items without even contributing to the fight. As it stands, I disband my groups if there's an unidentified ninja in it. Also for all the people claiming more people like it one way or the other, you have 0 evidence/statistics to back up your claim.

Wow, there were 6 pages added to this thread since I posted my thoughts. That coupled with the fact that this thread is closing in on 800 pages of concerned posts clearly indicates this is an issue.
Anyone who is in favor of this system is trolling or has an ego issue. There's just no good justification for it. None. If this was a competitive game, as in you fight over loot, if that was one of the main points of the game, that's different, but it's not. You know what this needs? Perspective. Imagine if experience dropped as an item or those little purchased coins and suddenly people started snatching each other's experience and coins. That would change opinions in a heartbeat. |

" You should be focused on the fight and keeping yourself and your teammates alive, focus firing, keeping in aura range etc etc. FFA loot makes you LOSE the sort of focus that the game should actually be rewarding. Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress. " +1 People stick to a game for MUCH longer if there is a social aspect to it. FFA loot discourages public multiplayer for all but masochists and loot ninjas, so this is simply killing that social aspect. There is no doubt at all in my mind that GGG are losing players and hence money by keeping loot FFA. It's not even as if people are asking for loot to be 100% instanced and remove the FFA option; they are asking for the CHOICE to be added so ALL players can find groups with the type of looting that suits them. From a more practical point of view, FFA loot is simply embarrassing. When I talk to my old guildies from previous games, trying to convince more of them to come play PoE, I've always got to excuse the damn looting system - and indeed it is a serious deterrent to people who like to play loot grinding games. Great items / orbs are rare enough, so when they drop, and someone else picks it up.....massive negative loot experience, in a game that is all about loot grinding. Ouch. Add a personal loot choice and I reckon at least a half dozen of my TL2 and D3 guildies would come over to this game, at least. Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress. Last edited by GhostlightX#1022 on Mar 10, 2013, 9:23:07 PM

Everyone who cant handle FFA because it hurts them too much to lose something they thought should be theirs, maybe should consider D3.
GGG are doing a good by not listening to the crying kids who cant handle competition, and there's already a company that has specialized in doing exactly what masses want for ARPG's, and u know how that turned out... .. because the masses never know what they want. Some ppl just need to cry less, i can imagine how it killed them inside as they were boosted by others until finally some loot dropped from others kills that thought they should ninja, but then they were slacking too far behind and someone who was in the fight took it from "them". Next they come to the forum and feel so mad coz bad, but is a l2p issues and luckily GGG dont cater to the nabcakes who want to nerf all and make all auto loot and auto safety and no brain mode. L2p. EDIT: Oh i forgot, FFA is DEFINITELY there just to make their lives worse. It's there for the stronk to pray on the weak, and everytime they are confronted with their own abilties as a player they come to forums to whine instead of improving their own skill. Dont do as they want GGG, they will ruin the game for everyone except the masses if you listen. That's all there needs to be said bout those nabs. I am personally against FFA loot. Maybe I should just play solo, but that isn't fun. The alternative is some lamprey is going to pick up all the items because they have a lower ping. I cant tell you how many times when an item has a timer on it someone picks it up before the bar is even completely depleted. The system just does not work.
Why not reserve this for hardcore or some other league lol? Hmmm...

"You're just a wordier Vooodu. Maybe you could explain why FFA should remain? There are plenty of people in this discussion who are happy with FFA because ninja looting isn't hard at all; it's just not fun. The system needs changed for reasons other than "qq". If you can't see past that and you like to insult others instead, then I've nothing left to say to you. I'm not even sure why you're in this thread IF that's all you want to do. It's really hurting the discussion if all we get is: A. Don't listen to X GGG because my opinion is superior. B. Listen to me GGG because I know what this game needs. No, no no. Please don't do this. If you're going to be upset about something, then please add something concrete to your suggestions/comments to give us something to actually discuss. Otherwise it would just turn back into one big insult-fest. We can respect each other and disagree at the same time. Believe it or not. IGN: Mibuwolf

" Please Oh please majorly consider this option, I'm so sick of entering Pub games that promote letting everyone get their own drops only to get all my stuff stolen. Main reason being I have a terrible ISP at the moment, seeing my stuff taken before the timer is even up that's not right, clicking my rare twice only to find a white in my inventory WTF.. Someone standing directly on my loot so I don't get it that's some major bull, all in NON ninja games, I just want to witness some friendly gaming for once. Hopefully will be upgrading internet speeds soon so will not be as much of a problem, but honestly some people just have no respect for the environment party leaders try to set up in their games. " I have already explained why it should remain; it drives the gameplay forward, intensifying the motive to improve your personal performance. It is not so much about ninjalooting playing a serious role. Unless you have a weak character that has to stand max range because its build like a glass cannon waiting to be shattered, then you will get your fair share of loot. Simple as that. Sometimes you get some of yours taken if you are playing with complete randoms, and sometimes you take some of the randoms loot, it's all a part of the fun. You see games such as Diablo have a glorious past where loot arguments and struggles plays an essential role. Everyone have memories of these situations, because it makes for an interesting game. Life is more interesting when it vibrates, with ups and downs, than it is when you seek to be constant all the time. You simply must learn to deal with life being the way it is, raw, and not some polished up shine thingie. All are equal when reincarnated upon Wraeclast. Step up 2 da game, if you dont like building characters, then you probably cant hang. Mayn ;) Take it easy bro, Peace. " Hi there. Consider for a moment that the poor cannot afford fast internet connections. If the poor who play POE constantly miss out on their loot drops because of this, while the rich high speeders consistently grab theirs (and others).... what we have is a very accurate reflection of the real world, symbolically played out in a fantasy game. Kudos to the game designers for the realism of social injustice. Last edited by Jezabel#1003 on Mar 10, 2013, 10:30:00 PM
