As it stands now "competitive" = standing around doing nothing waiting for loot to drop so you can grab it fast while others are actually playing the game (killing mobs).

Who stands around waiting for loot to drop?

I kill and loot at the same time. Not a big deal. But, to you it is. Which you can fix by playing alone.

The only time i 'wait' is when i have to wait for the timer to expire. Which is basically a split second.

People complaining about 'WHEN' people choose to pick up loot should be playing alone. That way you can watch the loot drop and pick it up tommorrow if you feel like it.

because you aren't ranged. heavin forbid their is some variety in this game. you aren't complaining because the current system fits perfect to your class/playstyle and is affording you additional loot.

I got 2 ranged characters and I'm not complaining or having a problem with the current system. I still get all my loot and then some.

There's actually more than just a couple reasons why (I) would change the loot system. Reasons described many times already are posted here:

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/392/page/744#p2031439

Point A is somewhat moot but it's because of A that many people want FFA to stick around.

If having instanced loot as an options is a bid deal or any other option for that matter, then please describe why that is.

If it's because groups are easier and quicker than the rate of killing stuff when solo, then I would ALSO suggest that groups are made harder than solo. Many people want that as well. I agree. Groups are quite easy especially if you have 2-3 that do decent dps and 1-2 to tank all the damage. There is little or no difficulty given to that group. That doesn't make the option though less viable. It just means that other changes would have to come along with it.

ALSO, instanced loot wouldn't give the same amount of loot as FFA because then instanced would be seen as an ADVANTAGE. To that, I also agree with. If we balance the options, then there should be no issue with implementation.

I only play with friends or solo so the loot system actualy is fine for me. I never would play a public game or with people I don't know well. But I know many people like playing this way so I really wonder why GGG just don't go the most easy and effective way and include instanced loot like modern Hack'n Slay games should have. It's one of the few things that really works well in Diablo 3, no complaining about Ninja Loot or anything, just relaxing pickup whenever you want.
From this side, I really see no advantage in the public loot system of PoE, maybe GGG likes to see players rage and fight for the loot like ages back in Diablo 2. But I doubt GGG is so mean.

GGG wants you to stay focused in groups instead of just holding your left/right mouse button and gather your loot at your own pace like you do in D3. You can do that when playing solo at your own leisure.

Maybe you shouldn't be telling other people how to play the game, because frankly no one from the opposing side is ever going to listen to you.

I sincerely hope that if any GGG employee ever reviews this thread they filter out all your comments, because that's about as much value as they've added to the conversation.

If FFA loot is required to keep us focused, then GGG has failed. I should be keeping focus in groups because the game is fun, challenging, and rewards cooperative play.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I wouldn't like it if they made all loot instanced per player

What part of option do you not understand?
You'll still be playing your beloved ffa.
So don't go strawman

What part of "same rules for everyone, per league" do you not understand?

Go buy your own beloved instanced loot league when the time comes.

Arguing the same rules for everyone doesn't even make any sense. The only people who play FFA as it was designed are those in public games. Everyone else ignores it and some even ignore the way that it was intended in their own public games.

So the question is what reason is there that FFA needs to be forced onto every public game? It is NOT a core feature of Path of Exile.

Finally, someone on this thread that makes sense! FFA loot is not a core aspect of the game; it's a core aspect of the multiplayer experience! Worse, it has a severe negative impact on the multiplayer experience for many of us, enough to make us prefer solo play. By giving us the option of instance loot, GGG improves the multiplayer experience dramatically for a large portion of their playerbase without hurting the experience for anyone else. It's a win-win move for GGG.

What the whiners fail to realize is that there are just as many, or more, people who love the FFA loot system. Take it out, and they stand to lose just as many players or more than extending the timers.

Why would ffa lovers leave the game when the ffa play style would still be available to them as it is in its current present form, maybe even further enhanced with a timer-free option too?
Ofc they wouldnt leave.
Therefore please stop spreading FUD and false arguments.

Did you ever consider that a switchable loot option, would differentiate the way people acquire loot and with whom they play, while still being players in the same league? You should really stop acting like you're knowledgable about the consequences of such an option, because you're not.

He is making an educated guess based on the fact that players like us don't have the option we want and we are STILL here, and with looting options FFA people would HAVE their prefered way of playing so why would they want to leave?

Its all a guessing game but at least his guess makes sense. Ya the game would change a little but the point is people would still have their preferred way to play the game. No one would be left in the cold like they are now.
