The pro-RED argument that the game is easier in multi-player is simply marvelous.
Let's even assume it's true, just for laughs. The game is easier, we'll say. The players combine their powers, Captain Planet style. Fine. The players kill faster, gain exp faster, and therefore, as a result of this accelerated play speed, earn loot faster, irrespective of -- or perhaps in combination with -- the +50%-per-player drop rate modifier. Sure. Why not.
Doesn't this all simply speak toward party balance? That the group, as a whole, is gaining a bonus? If so, then how does TORTURING INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS by forcing them to run in circles trying desperately to pick up their loot before someone steals it somehow magically provide some sort of meaningful, useful counter-balance to this game balance issue?
Or, from another approach: let's assume six GREENs get together for kicks and form a six-player game. Being GREENs, rather than experiencing the stupendous, naughty-region-tingling joy of stealing each others' loot, they simply allow each other to pick up the loot that's been allocated to each of them, as it drops. As a result, not only is the whole "ZOMG FFA cut-throat awesomesauce" system neutered, but these six players are also gaining the aforementioned, so-called benefits of group play. Thus, it is possible, right now, to play multi-player, and gain all of its supposed game play advantages, but purposefully avoid any of the disadvantages that REDs claim are designed to counter them.
Seems like a pretty crappy balancing mechanism to me, if it's so readily circumvented. And in turn, this again begs the question: since players can do that anyway, WHY SHOULD REDS CARE if we can simply set up a game to provide this mechanic automatically?
I am more of a purple player myself. I hate the player behavior that the short timer fosters but I feel that with some adjustments the timer would be a positive feature of the game.
I also feel that Multiplayer is EASY and needs to be adjusted. I would love to see patch notes that state.
Significantly increased the challenges that players will face while in groups.
Increased the base loot timer to allow players to handle the increased difficulty.

Why would you force me to play Instanced? Oh you wouldn't force me, I would have the option of playing a harder loot option, why thank you! That would be stupid. In FFA I have to fight monsters AND other players for loot where Instanced players only fight the monsters. You can deny the difficulty between the two, but it is the truth. The reasons people give for the option are clear, except for the typical "Gameplay difference, thats all *trollface*"
Instanced players only fight monsters but hey, they can't snatch an exalted more than they are worth. FFA players are fighting both mobs and players but hey, they can pick all 10 exalted orbs that just dropped in an instance.

For one million dollars would you clap your hands for it? Or would rather do a 10 mile sprint?
If both had the same reward and you could choose one, you know what one you would do. Instanced or any easier OPTION would have to have a penalty. Same if cutthroat were implemented, it would need a boost for drops, now you fight others and fight for loot and fight monsters.
More risk = More reward.
So, you have to invent some rediculous retarded argument to prove you are right. Now, you either KNOW that your argument is retarded indeed but still post it in case noone notices, or you are a retard for bringing up retarded arguments. Which group are you then?
Instanced loot is like depositing your money to a bank. You won't get billions, but you won't lose your money.
FFA is like gambling. You may double / triple your money in 10 seconds, you may lose everything.
So, FFA is more risk and more ward, instanced loot is no risk no reward (not more than playing solo, actually, its less since drop rates are +50% for each additional player).

Having it both ways makes perfect sense for me.
Play single player -> get less XP and less loot
Play single player 6boxed -> get same XP and same loot as groups, but immense higher difficulty and no comfort of 5 players helping you killing monsters.
Wait wait, are you completely dumb? :D
How can you possibly get less xp and less loot on single player? If anything, I get more XP (and OBVIOUSLY MORE LOOT, since its 100%) in single player than in a party that instead of killing mobs camps loot.
And about the 6box, do you think ANYONE would spend his time 6boxing to get same xp and same loot? You are essentially getting 350% loot while 6boxing and you need to deal 4.5 times more damage for 6times the xp. So you are essentially getting more xp AND more loot while 6boxing. It's called MATH. End of story

Why should te dev-team change loot then, afterall you guys can already play without FFA. I rather see the dev-team work on more important issue's.
Given that this thread has reached 491 pages; that this thread was started by a dev; and that the moderators had to actually make a post banning new threads criticizing the looting system due to their prevalence; I daresay this is a rather important issue to both players and devs alike.

I like to play with a max magicfind and DPS outfit. Start of act 3 on merciless I should get one free from the vendor everytime I get a character there.
There is no reason for you to decide or punish the way I would like to play.

After thinking about this for a while, I say give them instanced loot in default. But keep the FFA in hardcore. Anyways, its only baddies that can't move fast enough to click their loot and cry much in forums.
As long instanced loot is of an inferior quality than FFA-loot runs sure. Instant gratification kids these days, always want their loot the easy way.
I have nothing against making game harder. I like challenge, where you have to use your brain (that's why I plat HC). You like to challenge, where you have to click fast. That is fine. I don't call you "Instant gratification kid" because of it. So please do as well and stop calling others like that.

I`d just like longer timers. FFA loot in diablo 2 wasnt good, any real magic finding was done solo.
My problem currently is that in a big fight the timers will all have run out by the time you can savely walk in. Even if you wanna be all gentlemen like, if you dont know what dropped for who, things will go wrong, and randoms will get greedy.
If they do end up going for 100% FFA, expect to see tanky teleport builds just to jump in the pack and grab the goods, and afterwards pretend to be doing anything useful
