Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

I constantly lose out on items on my ranged characters, especially after a big boss fight and everyone merges to the big loot pile, causing player collisions and confused pathing.

I often see melee players just stand on the good loot until the timer runs out, frequently not allowing the designated player to get close enough to the item to pick it up.

Please, just increase the RANGE you can pick up items with.

That way you don't need to stand directly over the item and players cannot block others as easily.

As a ranger I lose out on a lot of gear. The timer is so short and with fodder of monsters still in the way I can not always just run in and loot items up. I wish the timer was longer because it feels really short. I just had an argument with a guy picking up a bow, me being the only current bow user would not give me the bow and said he would rather npc it. I am all for challenge and working for your gear to give it value but having it the way it is now is unfair. Should I go roll a melee build to stay in the fray to get gear for my ranged class? I think not. I like this game and enjoy playing. I feel like I can only play with friends so I know I can get gear at all. I want to support Path but with this loot system, I can not bring my self to do so.

For me as of now, party to kill the boss. Solo to farm/XP/Quest upto boss if any.

Really dont like FFA loot.

That's my process too.
First off, completely agree with what I've read from the GGG devs: that instanced-loot has an artificial and kind of 'overproduced' feel that kind of kills the mood. I very much like their overall direction with the game, but I do feel the current implementation of the loot system needs some tweaking.

Here is what I suggest:

-Make the loot timers longer. 5 seconds, maybe even longer.

-Make it so that anybody can loot any item at any time, whether it's timed or not.

-Make it so that if you loot an item that is timed under someone else's name, you are flagged somehow and everyone can tell; some kind of aura, a red name, anything.

My problem with the current system is not just that there is ninja-looting, it's that it's ninja-looting with total anonymity and no repercussions.

Under this system it would:

A. Be simple enough to kick out the guilty parties. You could even impose penalties on them if you like, perhaps only in certain leagues, like a PvP flag.

B. It would not hinder dedicated/friend groups' pace of play; in such groups where everyone trusted each other they could simply agree to "play as FFA" loot and not worry about "flagging" in order to pick up the pace.

Cutthroat is good, IF it offers the possibility of increased player interaction / enforcement / drama. I feel that the current system only leaves public groups with a foul atmosphere and feelings of resentment, about which you can do absolutely nothing, short of trying to become a better looter or start scripting. I would love to see a system that encouraged some more interesting interactions.

I like the current looting system. Even though it feels like a dumbed down version of the D2 loot system, which I loved. First come, first serve. If you snooze, you lose. It's a good system.

Yep then ping would become a factor. Good old game made right here in gods own and no damn local server. Hrmmm
The looting system as it is, is no good. It only makes people want to play by themselves, because there is so many factors like ping and people blocking the way. Before, I didn't care when I lose a rare, but when I just lost a chain as a ranger to a greedy marauder it just leads to frustration. In closed beta I felt this wasn't a big problem, because everyone was more lax and only picked up stuff they use. Now, I only party up to complete quests.
Add an option to set a custom loot timer when creating a party. Anything from zero to 60 seconds. Problem solved.

Leaving the current loot system the same is only going to encourage people to use pickit mods as soon as they become available to everyone.

Enjoy the same shit that happened to D2. It's only a matter of time before it happens.

this is the problem that people do not realize....pickit bots WILL come and people (including myself) i would prefer to PAY 20$ for the pickit bot than to any cosmetic thing they will bring...it is a matter of efficiency afterall...

and i want to really see the faces of this FFA defenders then...
When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself
