Make "personal Loot" invisible until the timer runs out. Maybe this prevents people from camping around items. A timed out item suddenly appearing might even gain the "original owner" the extra second he needs to pick it up.
I have to admit, if the Loot system is the biggest complaint about this game then this game must be doing pretty awesomely.

and maibe...don't let others players see my loot till the time for reach the drop end!
the only problem i have with the loot system is when you party there is simply too much loot on the floor and clutters your screen (swapping loot off isn't always the wisest of choices when your loot can get stolen)

and this is why id prefer instanced loot, just so it is more manageable.

Default league should firstly be a enjoyable experience, most people game for fun and relaxation, not for competition.
This default league should be the magnet, the principal attraction of the game.
From all those new incoming players in default league, there will be some that will like to compete.
This is the reason for hardcore/cutthroat/races/etcetera. Competition leagues.
So dont confuse default league with competition leagues.
Besides, ffa will stay. We just want loot-options and this will not affect your ffa-style anyway.

Just so you know, it already has changed with the addition of timers. Many aspects of the game have changed since the closedbeta started. I don't see why looting-system cannot take ammends.
And guess what, it will change, they already announced they are talking and looking for options regarding looting.
The game as a whole will be in constant changes over next 5-10 years ... so I'm pretty sure you are wrong when you say "Its not changing".

I play with high latency and I have both a shadow and an archer.

With the shadow, you move in and out of mobs quickly and sometimes you just miss your drops by going out just when it drops.

The ranger is almost always out of range even with the higher timer.

And for both of them, I get the feeling I have to stop attacking and rush to my drops everytime I see a good drop for me. Sometimes you cant even analyse if you need it or not to see it getting robbed.

20-30 sec cooldown time is a much better option imo.

Ofcourse that anyone who wanted to financially support the game has done it with no "compromises or blackmails". I'm sure the devs didn't take any money from anyone who tried to impose their personal views of the game.
