Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" and so this game is gonna die, cause the majority of the $income is from hard working people and not from the kids(like you and dont say youre a 30 year old guy with tons of exp or something else boy), whos only challenge in their world now is playin an arpg and espezially picking up loot as fast as possible think of that, before destroying "your"(always pro ffa guys saying in the whole thread) game i dont need a challenge while looting, i need a challenge while fighting |

" I'd like to point that FFA made sense in D2 because people could PK. Without that counterbalancing mechanism, FFA in PoE is riskless scrubcore wannabe poserthroat. At that point, just drop FFA, put a pirate flag on the act 1 camp and be done with it. Anyways, today I had a lesson in how fast and efficient FFA looting is. Party leader stopped fighting to stand guard by every nice drop hoping to ninja it. Succesful he was as he pocketed a good number of valuables, but slowed down the fighting. Remember party leaders have a ping advantadge. Yeah, nice fellah. Some marauder called solidsnakess or some variation. Solution: Add Namby Pamby league that allows for instanced loot, larger tooltips with more wordy explanations (Too many people asking stuff that is clear and plainly explained in the tutorial text on each tooltip), giant unskippable cutscenes explaining the controls, and unlimited respecs.
Restrict it to Act 1 (Like Raptor: Call of the Shadows did) to ensure those players have something to look forward to when they begin the real game. Make any loot (& Shared Stash) and characters created for that League non-transferrable to the Normal/Default League and other Leagues. Once you beat Act 1 it will tell you that it is time to grow up and to be a man (Or lady, depending on the Character gender), in order to be a man you must earn the respect of others to gain success like no other. (Party with Randoms and earn there trust to become friends with them) Though I'm not really in favour of player killing in the FFA League unless it's an opt-in system and both parties (The target and the hunter) agree to it/opt-in. " Its not about being alert its about playing intelligently. It is idiotic to drop what you are doing to rush to an item to make sure a melee that is in the area doesn't take it. It is almost always poor taste to stop fighting to run to loot. Maybe start the timer at the end of combat. If you do not currently have a "flagged for combat" mechanic it could also be a nice option to have while developing future skills. Even if its just a flag that tells whether you have taken or dealt damage to anyone in the area within the last two seconds. ign: Jesus_Of_Nazareth

" Nicolas..you are prime example why this community sucks..not only you are not providing any good insights or anything which would support your case or some real arguments why is instanced loot bad..you are just attacking players with different opinion. There is nothing hardcore in it. |

While D3 has a host of shortcomings, I feel they struck gold with their instanced looting system. Party play with random people became such a good experience! Hell, in most parties I participate in, there is this altruistic thing going on where if I find an item that would benefit a party member, I give them that item, and they do the same for me. I'm sure you get the feeling.
I do not need to fight party members, I'd much rather have allies against the forces of evil. I am a poor student gamer who is playing on a 2-year-old laptop. That makes party play a very laggy experience for me with all the sprites and sparks going on. Even if there is a few seconds for me to react to a drop's timer, I am lagging so much that someone else ninja's the item from me. This has lead me to the conclusion that I will party only when I am in dire need of help. Furthermore, I feel that finding people who I trust to party with could be quite difficult. I believe what I have said goes hand in hand with GGG's pledge to make the game playable on a wide variety of hardware. Therefore, I implore you, GGG, please consider instanced looting as an option! |

" Of course, GGG has been happy enough to provide a riskless haven for griefers, we wouldn't want to spoil it with risks and consecuenses of scummy behaviour. You folks can't stop talking about EVE and UO and shit, but in those games you could and get consentless PK'd and behaving like that provided a strong motivation. Heck, in EVE you can even put bounty's on guys so whoever gets the kill gets a nice payout. But again, to be clear, your "REAL MANS GAMES HARRDURR" are only about "nyanyanyanyanya i got da stuff" instead of, you know, real manliness. If this isn't proof you are just bottomfeeding griefers... and GGG empowering you all with their design decisins. Closed beta player, August 2011
