Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

There are way too many scenarios on why it SHOULD be increased.

I ran a VAAL run the other day with 5 pick ups. I literally walked out of that run with 1, yes ONE portal scroll. Call me bad at looting, but it is impossible when 3/4 people body block you from getting the loot. In a tight confined space it impossible get by the enemies, get by your teamates standing over your timer, to loot your own gear.

This timer discourages people from continuing to fight. I know if a unique drops in mid-fight I am running to loot and saying 'fk the team fight', just as everyone did to me in the Vaal run.

Suggestion: Allow us to run through friendlies. We shouldnt be 'body blocked' out of our own loot.

And lastly you arent going to lose players by changing the timer. If people actually leave because you make the timer 2 seconds longer, or allow us to run through each other...they arent in the game for the right reasons anyhow.

What I don't understand is how supposedly hardcore players and the devs can support this FFA looting mechanism when it is so wide open to griefing that it isn't even funny. The timer is a strawman, as is named loot, totally irrelevant. FFA is just begging for griefer/ninja/jackass players to exploit.

Worse, the game provides all sorts of interesting skills and equipment that helps the ninja. Spells like ice wall, skills like leap slam, supports like chance to flee, movement speed boosts, etc. Add in a bit of antisocial creativity and I'll steal you blind. I'll loot chests screens away, drag mobs on top of you to keep you busy, beat you to the loot ever single time unless it drops on top of you, and block you from getting to anything I want. It is completely stupid.

I'm a retired programmer, a former developer, and have some experience in game design and programming; if I set out to deliberately design a system to be easily exploitable by griefers I could not do better than FFA. It is a masterpiece of antisocial engineering.

This game is dead to me.

I am too old for this. I refuse to run after loot like an idiot.

It's like having a fist-fight in a casino: You have to punch out everyone else if you want to get the money you just won.

It makes no sense. No one enjoys it. It's not 1996 anymore.

The only good thing is that I did not pay a dime for this game yet. No hard feelings, but I rather play games that give some respect to their players.

Over and out!

Back to D3 gramps! See ya!

Better yet, take the timer completely off! I love the rush of adrenaline when some FFA loot drops, it's one of the main reasons I play and donated for this game and I hope GGG never succumbs under this constant overwhelming casuals whining that started after OB.

That FFA really hurts this game. How anyone can think this is as enjoyable is beyond me. Definitely makes me look for another game and let that fail ninja mentality dictate the left-over players. Will be a hart-warming community.

Just remember, once you chase away all the sheep, the wolves starve. Have fun starving if you get your way.

I enjoy it tremendously. It would be even better without the timer, but I'll manage with that. Bye!

We don't need you here. If you want to be here, stay for all I care, but then you have absolutely no right to start complaining and mainstreaming this piece of art of a game. You want to play with us? You play with "our" rules. And by "our" I mean GGG's and the people that share the same hardcore vision.

It would be fine if other players couldnt block you from getting your own loot. In tight packed areas, every sits on your loot (even in the middle of fights) therefore blocking you out of range from your own loot.

I mean should I just join multiplayer game and not fight any mobs and just focus on looting and ninja'ing the drops of others?? See the potential problem?

.....uh, you could just do that with instanced loot aswell.

BTW, loot timers are not your drops.

That is exactly what you should do. Do not build a character able of killing anything. Build one just for survival and speed. Never attack unless you have to. Form the party yourself so you can't be kicked.

Oh, and there's no ninja'ing in this game, remember? ;)
In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.
