All you keep saying is "my loot" "my loot", it IS NOT YOUR LOOT!

System allocated loot to specific name by specific conditions.. you can repeat this stupid phrase as long as you want.. but technically ..it's "your" loot..

Its only yours when you pick it up.

A. Briefly explain your background in programming to give that some validity.
B. 347 pages of opinions seems pretty social to me.

A.Their is a line of code that controls the base loot timer. It currently reads something like loot_timer=0.5; The devs open their source code go to that line of code and change it to loot_timer=5.0; Problem solved, less players feel frustrated and system is preserved.

When the Devs are creating the next hardcore week long race they set loot_timer=0.5 and now the group of players that really like the system have an environment to play in.

You can't be serious.... If you honestly think that is what their loot algorithm looks like.... I don't even know what to say to you.

This is a blatant attempt at scaring developers into your way of thinking. You have no idea what most players are doing because most players are not even on these forums. You have no statistics to support your claim. In fact your only bit of evidence is what? A gut feeling or the small amount of people that you have seen who say they are quitting because of the loot system?

This is just foolish.

This thread is located in the Beta General Discussion section, presumably so the developers can get some feedback on what the players think. That's what we're doing here, giving feedback that we don't like the current looting system. Nobody is trying to "scare" anyone.
Well at least we can all agree on one thing the current system isn't the solution. FFA players aren't happy and designated loot players aren't happy.
The Dev post was made over two years ago

The reason was the timers were added was a balance issue.

What many people are discussing is a playstyle issue. They are two completely different things. This game was built for FFA, but was changed for balancing reasons, and NOT for playstyle choice. I.e. I like to loot afterwards.

If they ever allow party leaders to just change the fighting system so that all mobs die in one hit and all drop uniques I would bet money that 99% of parties would be killing mobs in one hit and looting uniques all the time.

False equivocation AND a straw man all at once? That alone would have been enough to convince me to completely disregard your opinion, but let's continue, yes?

Ok, here we go. The person that comes in and breaks up posts out of context then tries to use tired debating terms that are thrown around the internet without reguard. My comment above is supported by the argument below, they are in the same post and the lower half describes and explains how the example mentioned above fits into the context of my argument.
I hoped it would help some people to understand the seemingly subtle yet huge difference to the type of game the developers are creating.

It's a part of the game mechanics! The loot in this game is not meant to just drop for you. It is supposed to be a challenge to grab the loot you want. That is part of the gaming experience GGG is going for here. Asking to change it is just like asking for what I wrote above. You are asking for a nerf to a chosen design choice that adds challenge to the game.

Your thinking is clearly distorted here. The "challenge" you're talking about is simply spam-clicking the ground where a boss/elite mob is dying in hopes of snagging everything you can. That's not a challenge. That's not even really gameplay. It's just clicking! Click-click-clickity click. It's so simple, in fact, that people can (and WILL) make scripts to automate the process, taking away from the gameplay of other players in the process.

It's griefing, pure and simple. Nobody wins here but the griefers. Funny, this was the same reasoning that saw PKing taken out of normal league, yet it still remains. Something is strange here.

Quoted from the OP. How the developers feel:
"
It's important to us that Path of Exile has a cut-throat feel where players are not only competing against monsters, but also their fellow players. We do not feel it is an option to arbitrarily hide items from players who have not been allocated them.

This is how the developers feel as well. So I guess we all have a distorted view. But far more likely, it's just a view that you do not share.

It is foolish to support your opinion with conjecture. Which is what most people are doing in this beta discussion. No one has any clue of how well the company will do based on the loot system. Let GGG worry about their business and let us debate our opinion on the LOOT system. Not on whether this company will succeed.
Why not combine solo loot with the ffa one. Those items with no player allocated to it would be FFA while those with allocations would not drop but appear as part of the UI to the player set to it(This would have a loot timer) saying "do you want this item?" and 2 choices appear with it saying "Yes" and "No". If the player does want the item, he would just click on "Yes" and it would instantly appear on the player's inventory. If for some reason the player does not want the loot and clicks "No" or the timer runs out, the item would drop on the location the player as a FFA item.

Having this system would fix things:
-No more waiting for a long time for an item a player does not want(and not get left behind)
-No Ninja looters
-You can finish killing monsters left in the area without worrying someone might steal your
loot
-Players won't stop fighting to get the loot
-No more panicking on which loot is yours
-Less Distracting names on screen(Especially when there are a lot of items around)
-I couldn't think of anything else.

I'd like a little longer of a delay on item drops. I'm a ranger and I have several MF items.. killed a boss and had four yellows drop for me. I only got to one in time. I don't mind trying to weigh out which item would be the most beneficial to loot.. but really?

ah another FACT why FFA sux...
let me break it a bit for those FFA defenders

our little friend here is a ranger
our little friend here has MF gear
our little friend here BOOSTED the mf of the group
our little friend here carried his weight in the group
and our little friend here only managed to get 1 item out of the 4 and not because the other SPARED him this one item...hell i bet their mad mouse clicking skills didnt' grab all of them..

welcome our little friend to this thread you have a story of many more that have already or will never been spoken

Your little friend was tooooooo slooooooow for the pick up... And BTW, thats not HIS loot. Its everyones.

He should have stayed in single player if he thinks hes entitled to every single thing that drops. DErP!

Please, do everyone an favour and give it up. You just keep juicing drama queens sob stories for what its worth.

They really need to remove the loot timer. Im getting tired of kickin people who complain about `ÒMG LOOT NINJAS`!
