Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
Here are my thoughts.
" These concerns have not been adressed by adding a timer. Latency will still make you miss your valuable drops, with a high chance of that when the screen gets filled with items and you have to run to it, and the items are moving around. I feel that the "cut-throat" feeling is not really appropriate, it goes against the norm, coming from any other major loot based game, like wow, D2 or torchlight 2. The norm is to go for instanced loot to further the fun of team play. I understand that you listen to the player base and want to create an experience that the players want to have. For example your hardcore mode is not mandatory, its an option. And I think you should let the reasoning behind that expand to this design decision as well. Let it be an option. If you truely want a cut-throat feel, I think you should go all the way. And then I think you should go ahead and do what you really want to do, and that is to make a "cut-throat" mode of play. Here there is open PvP, and when you die you lose all items on your body, or something like that. Do exactly what you want. Make it an option for the party to choose between instanced loot or free. There. Everyone is happy. Last edited by Chow#5036 on Jan 26, 2013, 6:10:47 PM

" Like taken from my head, and probably many many others. | |
longer timer, perm bound, or go full out FFA, FFA loot always prompted a discussion within the group about loot usually there was a rotation.. now thats gone its random and the timer sucks, so either bind it or free it. makin the timer longer would be a little better too though, but still when all those people are clicking on it, waiting, i cant help to think its messing up something lol
the ninja capacity is on overload maybe give party leader the choice of loot style!? Steam:Gonejah

Its really a shame that you intend to leave this loot system as it stands with short timers and ffa settings.
Why would you encourage people to stop fighting mid combat to try to run into melee range and loot items. Are you taking into consideration the time it takes to run to an item while being path blocked by players, mobs and in game landscaping ? I cant call this anything other than poor game development. You are pitting players against one another in a pve environment by who can click the fastest. I really hope in time you reconsider because this would be a pretty solid game if it wasnt pointless to play as ranged in a party with people i dont personally know and trust. I had planned to drop some money in the micro shop till I read this. |

" Once I finish act 3 chances are I won't play the game further, specifically due to the way loot is handled. I half expect in a few months to get a promotional mail about how the game now has a proper instanced loot system, offering a promotion on microtransactions and probably announcing along with this some new content. I want individual loot on yellow items. You can do free for all on whites and blues if you want, but not yellows. People are assholes and I don't trust them to be generous. I don't see how free for all or timers for individuals is better than just giving me my own loot. If someone wants it, we can do a trade. However, the last thing I want is some asshole snatching up my gear because I wasn't quick enough too it.
