You won't get a word from the devs. They've already stated that they WANT to have "loot tension" (IE griefing and ninja) and were only putting timers as a way to throw a bone to players. Grudgingly.

IMHO, it's silly, but it's the way it is. As much as I love PoE and like how GGG managed it, on that point they seem to cling to their misguided "vision".

So be it. I'll just never group with strangers.
FFA Loot is a perfect fit for a FFA PvP game. Putting it in co-op PvE is just creating endless arguments and headaches. And of course, if you give an option, there would go the griefing GGG wants to have.

I completely agree with this. I don't think I'm a stubborn or close minded person, but this loot system, to me, just feels wrong. Giving the option to at least have other loot rules in a group can't hurt any one?

I really hope they get around to this, it's getting boring having to solo and wait for friends to log on or want to do exactly what you want to be doing to enjoy the game.

There were multiple threads deleted on the main forum yesterday on this subject. In fact the 2 busiest threads. Many logical arguments were made for a dropdown menu option at party creation. They were met for the most part with rude narcissistic replies from the other side. One of the mods even likened the requests to "someone coming and shitting in your house". There is clearly something major wrong with the Philosophy at GGG. I admire the desire to create an updated D2 style experience. Ninja looting was aberrant behavior in D2 and Blizzard attempted to mitigate it several times. One attempt was to nerf sorc teleporting. Also it is clear that the controlling voices at GGG and on the forums must be primarily PVP and or ninja looters themselves. why else would one consider it a feature? The insistence on injecting PVP elements into PVE is bad for the game and reflects poorly on GGG.
GGG continues to re-iterate that POE is a "hardcore game for hardcore gamers". How that translates to rude behavior ie ninja looting being a game feature is beyond me. No one on the side of a drop down option has asked for ninja looting to be removed from the game only the option to not have it in a pug they create. I realize you cant please all the people all they time To blatantly "piss in the face" of legitimate community requests is rude and bad business however. Lets not forget when GGG put POE out for public consumption they also put it out for public input. I re-iterate no one is asking for game changing mechanics. Only the option to not have bad loot etiquette in a pug party they create. Here is the definition of etiquette for those unfamiliar.

et·i·quette
/ˈetikit/
Noun
The customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group.

If a mod did indeed use this wording its a sad day.
Mods are supposed to be *moderating* and not being ...well like that.

I think people also confuse Hardcore with FFA loot because D2 HC had it, and thus as Diablo 2 HC was flawless and the most perfect thing in the entire universe it must be a good feature to use. *cough*

I really sometimes dont wanna even mention i even played Diablo 2 hardcore, as that would associate me to the ONLY HARDCORE FFA LOOT SIDE RAAARGH MANLY HC FFA.
(Yes i avoided the FFA looting in Diablo 2 HC by playing solo, yes it was boring. But atleast i got good items.)

The way i see it, if its not changed PoE will start to loose players that get tired of soloing.
Only Pseudo-FFA Loot + Desyncs + other issues = Players being annoyed and leaving the game.
Re; the repeated claim that people who want fixes to the loot system being "self-entitled",
Wanting the loot system to remain the same is equally self-entitled.

Neither option is a right. If you act like you have a right to it, that's a self-entitlement.

Just a technicality, but wanted to point it out.
Oh yes it would "hurt" some people. It's about the same argument you get for FFA PvP. While a minority of people do enjoy and play FFA PvP for its own sake, a lot just like it for griefing.

But here's the catch : To engage in griefing, you need targets. And NOT the guys that love FFA PvP for itself. They're just too thick-skinned and trained. You need regular players to victimize.

Which is why you get endless threads about how bad it was that such-and-such game (usually Ultima Online) introduced "Carebear" servers. Simply because players that did not like FFA PvP for itself and were fed up with griefing flocked there, leaving FFA PvP servers filled with genuine enthusiasts... And griefers without prey.

You get the same whenever a regular MMO has FFA servers. There's a minority a dedicated players (not very many of them) plus an infestation of griefers in some zones. Who prey on people trying out that ruleset and sometimes will come troll on the regular boards (thinking insulting players and accusing them of "cowardice" will somehow prompt them to come and get ganked) They generally don't stray in the regular PvPers territory because they would be KoS'ed and camped.

That's the same here. Offering an option would result in a majority of players choosing the most co-op option, a minority of players choosing FFA because they genuinely like it and lots of griefers without preys.

Which is what GGG wants to avoid. They WANT griefing because they think it's cool and interesting. Go figure.

sad part is the money they are gonna be missing cause of there misguided visions. i know i will NOT recommend this game or spend a dime in the shop with the loot system as is. i already had 5 friends stop playing cause of loot. oh well GGG your loss

This is a issue currently:
Chris has mentioned that GGG would change the looting "If theres enough interest", yet also said that GGG would prefer to have it Full FFA.

Herein lies the issue as follows:
Many try PoE, gets annoyed by FFA loot, and leaves for say...TERA (Super bad community on TERA btw :< ) or whatever.
Now even if the devs wanted player input, there would be no players left to give it or even respond to the changes.
Thus this misguided attempt at mediocre-core is not only an insult to true Cutthroat players but also to Casual players.

Im trying to be nice to new players, give them basic gear.
Talk a little about the passive tree and such things.
But i know im not the majority.
The majority is very hostile and treats new players like they are peasants it seems (atleast according to forum posts anyway).
I mentioned Instanced loot in the game chat, and got a hailstorm of things i wont repeat on the forums.
Lets just say it was nice things like "Scrubs should play in Scrubcore" and such nice sentences.

I can see how this so called *HC FFA Community only, everyone else needs to leave* is the very cause of loosing alot of newer players.

I feel that this is also at the core of the issue.
Basically you have (If i use animal kingdom references) lions hunting hyenas, and hyenas harassing gazells.
And you give the option of a *hyena and lion free zone* to the gazells.
Thus the hyenas are left alone to be harassed by themselfs and be hunted by lions.

What exactly is "enough interest" ? There have been threads like that, hundreds of pages long for months. But since GGG's stance is to have pure FFA, the simple fact that there are two sides in the debate is probably enough to let them justify sticking to their position indefinitely. Especially since, like I tried to explain, giving an option WILL suppress griefing.

Plus, by letting that issue fester so long, they've imbued it with a lot of emotional investment. Thus the name-calling and verbal fights, the calls for new players to just get out of here.

I think, the more time passes, the more they'll paint themselves in a corner with this. That's a pity, but heck, that's their call.

I personally don't think they will change that mechanism. GGG is probably hoping that, over time, regular players will accept the griefing or become griefers themselves. (Except then, as per your analogy, you would then be left with a big mass of disgruntled jackals :D)

longer timer, perm bound, or go full out FFA, FFA loot always prompted a discussion within the group about loot usually there was a rotation.. now thats gone its random and the timer sucks, so either bind it or free it. makin the timer would be a little better too though, but still when all those people are clicking on it, waiting, i cant help to think its messing up something lol

the ninja capacity is on overload
