Here is the problem with GGG.

While the idiocy at Blizzard is taking their game design philosophy of making everything way too casual at one extreme end, you have GGG going to the other absolute end of the spectrum. Why can't we have a company that simply has the humble fortitude of accepting the middle ground?

Look, instanced loot will probably not get into the game, for various reasons stated, specially in relation to endgame map drops/economy throttled with too much drops. That is fine. I can accept that. What I can't accept are players whom are also so vehemently against increasing the timer.

Your ping matters now in looting. It is simple as that. It should not.. I play with 20-50 ping. 95% of the time, I am able to pick my stuff up. But Christ on a biscuit, I can certainly feel for the players who are desperately trying to click their items while playing with over 200 ping. It is not fun for them. It is beyond frustrating.

Frustrated players leave. Players leaving a F2P game and spreading bad word of mouth is not exactly sound business design. I do what I can now though, I pick up their items and give it to them via trade, in case it gets ninja-ed.

Look into increasing the loot timers. Ignoring an issue won't make it go away. This will only get worse and bigger.

I have been trying to make this point for months now. Increase the timer and make co-op challenging and you will attract and retain players who like to socialize. And player that like to socialize will bring others who like to socialize.

Exactly. Their loot policy (non-instanced loot) is the sole reason I refuse to recommend this game. I know my friends would be annoyed by the current loot policy even if we teamed up, and playing with strangers...ugh.

Anyone who's played a f2p game like LoL for example knows how bad the community can be, especially when you give them tools to grief.

That said, make it so co-op is difficult but a fun grouping experience without the stupid loot headache and it would be a hell of a lot of fun :D

dude, when you can't take a few steps back in order to see the whole picture then you're really being obtuse, nothing else.
also, observe that i didn't said he is a inSANE individual so you can make him sane.
obtuse goes with something different entirely.

Ok, took 2 steps back.

Looked at bigger picture.

Hmmm. Game would be alot more fun with NO loot timer and NO name on items.

I enjoy the hardcore, vulture style looting of D2. Its also, why i love POE.

So, call me obtuse all you want. At leaast im still sane and enjoy old skool style loot system compared to a self entitled D3 loot system some of you kids are begging for.

This FFA environment would be fun but does NOT belong on the default league.

People need to stop whining, about all I can say about this. If your friends complain about people taking their loot, why don't they play with their own friends instead.

A perfect example of an obtuse individual.

I enjoy this loot system, but i do feel the timers are too short. However, other people feel that it should be pure free for all. So why must the loot system be only one? Why not have the default for party to be how it is now, but be able to change it to a pure free for all, or to longer drop timers at increments like 3 sec, 5 sec, and 10 sec. This way everyone can play how they want to and on the notice board like on the right side it could list how many second for item allocation and 0 would show pure free for all.

It'd be awesome if they made a separate league with really long timers or instanced loot. I don't know why they are reluctant to do so. To me that'd be a win win and I don't see why anyone would be against giving people this choice...except maybe that they fear their ffa loot will be in the minority. If I'm wrong though and the long loot timer / instanced loot league is the minority then once again, who cares! Let people play the way they want either way...seems a fair compromise!
Still no word from the devs, do we need a third thread?

Keep your precious loot system, but at least give the rest of us an option. Yes, someone stole another gcp from me so here i am complaining.
My Supporter Pack list compensates for my small penis.
You won't get a word from the devs. They've already stated that they WANT to have "loot tension" (IE griefing and ninja) and were only putting timers as a way to throw a bone to players. Grudgingly.

IMHO, it's silly, but it's the way it is. As much as I love PoE and like how GGG managed it, on that point they seem to cling to their misguided "vision".

So be it. I'll just never group with strangers.
FFA Loot is a perfect fit for a FFA PvP game. Putting it in co-op PvE is just creating endless arguments and headaches. And of course, if you give an option, there would go the griefing GGG wants to have.

sad part is the money they are gonna be missing cause of there misguided visions. i know i will NOT recommend this game or spend a dime in the shop with the loot system as is. i already had 5 friends stop playing cause of loot. oh well GGG your loss
