Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

Here is the problem with GGG.

While the idiocy at Blizzard is taking their game design philosophy of making everything way too casual at one extreme end, you have GGG going to the other absolute end of the spectrum. Why can't we have a company that simply has the humble fortitude of accepting the middle ground?

Look, instanced loot will probably not get into the game, for various reasons stated, specially in relation to endgame map drops/economy throttled with too much drops. That is fine. I can accept that. What I can't accept are players whom are also so vehemently against increasing the timer.

Your ping matters now in looting. It is simple as that. It should not.. I play with 20-50 ping. 95% of the time, I am able to pick my stuff up. But Christ on a biscuit, I can certainly feel for the players who are desperately trying to click their items while playing with over 200 ping. It is not fun for them. It is beyond frustrating.

Frustrated players leave. Players leaving a F2P game and spreading bad word of mouth is not exactly sound business design. I do what I can now though, I pick up their items and give it to them via trade, in case it gets ninja-ed.

Look into increasing the loot timers. Ignoring an issue won't make it go away. This will only get worse and bigger.
GGG, you better hack this item competition nonsense out of the game asap. I have friends quitting over this and it's quite frankly a silly design decision. I shouldn't need to explain why:

On the one hand you want players to fight together because it's fun. You add party systems, friend lists and "posting" boards to go with other players, then you make items nothing less than a frustrating and needlessly competitive thing. Just allocate items to certain players. The only thing this encourages people to do is play by themselves and frustrates new players. If they don't want the item they can toss it on the ground or the item becomes available for pick up after 30 seconds, a minute or something.

You don't want your game to be hard because of trolls and people who are good at clicking items before someone else, you want it to be hard because of the monsters and dangers. Get a grip.

Good game by the way.
People need to stop whining, about all I can say about this. If your friends complain about people taking their loot, why don't they play with their own friends instead.

What is the point to playing only with your friends? Isn't this an online game? This is silly response
When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

Totally and fully agree.

The timer is WAY too short, i've had to basically risk my life during a battle just to pick up an orb. Is this reasonable? This severely affects the people who play on hardcore mode.

Totally agree. And as a compromise, why not let the party leader configure how long the timer is from a set of presets (eg. short - 1sec, medium - 5sec, long - 10sec, take your time - 30sec).

Honestly with the current system I will just refrain from grouping up altogether and as a result probably stop playing after a while.

I feel the current looting system almost feels like it's tailor made to grief.

+1
Make
Spectral Throw

A very easy implementable option that lets the party leader choose loot options. No that would be bad because i iz hardcorz!!!
