Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" Yeah, when OB starts.... :( Anyway, i may not agree with all you people here. Slayer and i have very different views for example, but still the discussions was interesting that i had with slayer. I just feel this debate is very much the calm before the storm though as you say wrathmar, and GGG is sitting in the front porch with an umbrella. |

" don't get me wrong, i like the game. but ffa is not my cup of tea and i will not support a company that will not at least give options. so again ill just play single player. i mean why spend money on stuff that changes appearances when you wont party. oh well cant wait for OB |

Slayer is very interesting to debate against. Just when you think he is a complete troll he posts a well-reasoned and respectful counter point. The game and the community are going to drastically change in 1 day 7 hours. Kind of scary…

There's a simple solution to this really. Have the party leader select ffa loot or not when creating a party.
I didn't used to mind it untill I had a unique stolen from me just because they had a better ping. If you've got a 200ms ping, say goodbye to your items. |

yea Simple:
Party Leader selects at making party: 1: like now (what GGG and about 3% of player base want) 2: loot timer x2 times longer (5 seconds if close?) 3: loot timer x4 times longer (10 seconds if close?) 4: loot timer x10 timer longer (25 seconds if close?) 5: No FFA Bonan..2hander,Miss Bitch..whitch, ThongBow..ranger

Obviously, everyone has their opinions and preferences to loot allocation.
Each of us likes what they like, and I've made my preference clear. To those in favor of the current system as the only one, I ask you to consider this: It's an undeniable fact that plenty of players are not happy with it, and that many, many potential joiners of this game will be turned off and leave PoE because of it. What do you think would be more detrimental to the game? Adding in a non-FFA option, or just saying "the hell with them" and letting all those potential players and dollars leave PoE? Whatever your preference, it's a 100% guarantee that this loot system will chase away far more than it attracts. Not to mention that many of those who do stay, despite not enjoying the loot system, will NEVER join a group because of it. How does it help your cause to refuse loot options to others who will never buy into them? Remember, no one is asking for the removal of the current system, just an option to let us all the play the game in the manner we enjoy. In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.

I find the current system acceptable but I can't see any logical argument for not having a few options for it.

I find the current system annoying and don't want timers at all. It is distracting and a waste of time.
Although someones argument was absolutely amazing for changing it. "Why pay for cosmetics if you force me to play solo?" |

Seeing as we haven't heard a word about this matter from the devs recently, i think it's safe to say that OB will have no changes to the looting system.
I only hope they address it sooner rather than later. As it stands right now, grouping with anyone other than really close friends is not an option for me. It's not driving me away from the game, it just makes the game a lot less fun than it could be. My Supporter Pack list compensates for my small penis.

" Careful! You will awake the "you dont have to" fraction of the forum, but i agree with you because it happens often in games that players are "indirectly" forced to do something. For instance whenever balance changes come up people say "Nooo, dont nerf XY, why not let player have fun and those who dislike the OPness of XY dont have to use it" But this is a broken arguement because feature XY forces powerplayer or lets say "dedicated player" to do something which might be no fun(abusing feature XY) and therefore limits the possibilities of a game as other things become less viable This is nature, people go the way with the least resistance and if partying sucks because of getting ripped off "you are forced to not play party". Simple as that. Last edited by Nasabot#4956 on Jan 22, 2013, 11:48:40 AM
