Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

The arguments from the FFA-Part can used to ~90% as pro AND con facts.

Fact #2 is retarded - "reason to make friends", yeah sure, friendship based on items YEEEAH.
And the US-use of the word "friend" is a very strange definition.

And, last thing: The "instance loot" cons are totally made up. Really, who made this bullshit? That's propaganda as it's finest .............

you can play while watching tv and only using one hand when all you do is click on monsters

Oh my god, WE WILL ALL DIE BECAUSE I CAN WATCH TV WHILE PLAYING, TOTALLY NEGATIVE FACT IF INSTANCE LOOT COMES!!!
Make
Spectral Throw
great again
It shouldn't be a FFA vs Instanced debate. It should be a Loot Options vs No Loot Options, as FFA is a useful loot mechanic in some cases and would still be an option.

Also labeling people Green/Red is a bad idea, just go with "for loot options" and "no loot options."

Naaaaah, red and green is taken from the Prisoner's Dilemma and has a meaning. You can search for it on Google or go back to page........260 somewhere of this thread :-)

I have a draft started, the problem is when I get to the argument summaries, I'm having a hard time phrasing them neutrally. Like, this is who far I got:

Glossary:

FFA - The current game function where each bit of loot can be picked up by anyone.
Instanced - A proposed game function where each bit of loot is parcelled out and can only be seen and picked up by individuals.
Timed - The current game function where rares, uniques, and commodities can be seen by everyone, but each is randomly locked to a specific player for about one second.
GREENS - Players who lean toward increasing in ways in which FFA loot is moderated, or even instancing it entirely.
REDS - Players who lean toward limiting the ways in which FFA loot is moderated, or even unrestricting it entirely.

TIPS:
1) If someone is acting like a jerk, message a moderator or Support. I will be very aggressive about requesting moderation of this thread.
2) Don't be a jerk.
3) Try to be constructive; that means trying to elaborate on another person's point rather than trying to negate it.
4) Making a "slippery slope" argument is not constructive.
5) Assuming the motivations behind another person's point is not constructive.

SUMMARY:
In the past, the developers have stated that they wish to have the game feel "cut throat", and would prefer if loot was entirely unmoderated. Recent updates note they feel content with the current compromise of short timers limiting accessibility. Some players find this compromise unsatisfactory.

RED Side Arguments:
+ FFA loot is part and parcel of what makes Path of Exile the ARPG we deserve; Nintendo Hard and Grimdark rather than the rainbowpony hugpile other ARPGs of late have turned out to be. There are other games out there "for" GREENs, please check your casual priviledge.

GREEN Side Arguments:
+ FFA loot is not essential to making a game Nintendo Hard and Grimdark. All the other stuff does that. Your rights end where my feelings begin.

That's some seriously incredible bias you got there.

Also FFA loot in no way whatsoever makes the game harder. Not even a little. All it does is crush social activity.
I'm biased or the post is biased?
Is it biased to be pro-red or pro-green?
I think he was being sarcastic? Your post didn't look biased to me. He probably doesn't even know which side of the issue your on.....
Standard Forever
I just suggested the party option in the Suggestions forum. Hopefully people stay rational: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/70333
I must say that since I had a unique stolen (because of ping, not my slow pickup speed) I've played solo 95% of the time.

It's simply unacceptable to miss an item that has your name on it just because you don't have a good ping. Being in Australia, I've got 180+ on the Singapore server and 200+ on the US server. For me, this is the greatest issue, the current timer still penalises people just because they have a higher ping. I mean, I can't play hardcore effectively because of desync and my latency situation and I can't get my share of items either. You would think the GGG guys would be in the same boat when they play on a server as they're in New Zealand wouldn't you?

in an instanced system:
a) you don't need to make any friends, and nobody has a reason to friend you - the general public is almost the same.
b) you can play while watching tv and only using one hand when all you do is click on monsters
c) you can't see what anyone else got - so even if they just picked up a perfect item for your character you can't make them an offer or try and beg for it. etc.
d) to share loot you have to pick it up and drop or open a trade window in town.
e) no difference between large groups or solo - just advantages of following powerful players.
f) if someone in your party is a jerk there is nothing you can do to retaliate.
g) its not realistic that some items are invisible to all but one player. - minor thing, but what if monsters were instanced too?
h) no advantage to being in front and killing everything then to be in the back following and just looting.

How can you look at this list and say that any of it is a valid reason to not have instanced looting options?

It is a bunch of drivel. Nothing more.

FFA looting as the only option has 1 major drawback. It creates a single player game experience for the majority of players. Instanced looting has ZERO major drawbacks. You can nitpick and find little things that a few people might consider to be an issue (see above list), but these are far from major issues. Eliminating multiplayer as a viable option for people without an extensive network of friends is a major drawback.
From first second game was great...enjoyed every second of it and starting to want to support the game with some cash.....that was before i tried party. All good loot stolen. No chance to rush pick up those with my name on either. Someone else running around and only looted. Stupid system, reasson enough to stop playing.

ATLEAST roll or keep longer time reserve(min 5 seconds!!) to one player.
That is something i demand if im gonna support game with cash. I don't play online game to be forced going solo because of loot stealing!! This is 2013, not 1990.
