Jonathan was right, CHALLENGE IS REQUIRED to have fun
I don't like last epoch, but, you are comparing their league launch to poe2 being out for a couple weeks now. Of course it peaks.

" D3's launch difficulty was too extreme. On inferno players were spending huge amounts of time running from rares because they had so much hp and damage. There is nothing meaningful about that. There is nothing "soulslike" about that. |

" Chalenge is not the issue. I also like a hard game. But I relly on my hability to create a good character, crafting and skill in game to beat it. And have fun in the way. Now I dnt have a way to create a good character but to copy the only broken build there is out there. I wanted a lich. GGG says nope. I relly in my hability to strategical crafting. But.. What crafting? There is no craft system in this game yet. My skill in the game is what made me not get stucked in the game and being doing maps... The fun? Well Is half and half... Is more about strugeling than actually having fun. I am at the point where I should progress trough maps, do a couple trades and get into the endgame and big bosses... I am not there. The market is so expensive I cant afford the items and everyday the items I want are more and more expensive... So I think ok, lets craft but again.. What craft? So.. lets gamble maybe... But all u get is trash... So yeah.. the game slowed my progresion and what I get is the frustration of never reaching the level Im aiming. However I watched Ghazzy, that has a minion build far more powerfull than mine at this point and in his gameplay doesent seem too impressive... So Im a bit like... :-/ Meh Strugle and stugle to never get reward doesent seem to b funny to me... |

Yeah it sucks to be able to craft gear as you go, use skills in campaign you find fun and blast through content (story) few cares about. Get yourself to level 60+ do echos, experience CoF and its targetable drops, increased rates, or merchant's and outplay auction house. Experience game that rewards you for doing quests or killing monsters.
Experience all that and more before you comment. I don't think LE is game I want to play as much as I want to play PoE2, but going through story it was so nice to feel powerful, have a tone of mechanics on each map and get gear to progress and not think to drop something that helps me to get through 10hr long campaign, or drop raw currency and visit poe trade to get better experience. It was nice to be able to craft not gamble. I want PoE to be as enjoyable and less balance around trade. "We've just spent six years making expansions for path of exile, so imagine if we released path of exile 2 and it was just a bare campaign with none of that extra content. This would be a sad shell of an action RPG compared to the current state of path of exile."

" Meaningful was to push through. It was a HUGE achievement even to make it to the Butcher. You couldn't do that in 1 day like in later D3ROS with its sterilized drop and nerfed enemies. And then you hear a rumor that someone even killed Belial and now storms Act 3. Wooow. POE2 Dawn of Hunt had a similar vibe (though it is much much easier than Inferno). For the first time in many many years I had again that sense of challenge to push through (it was lost in maps though, as powercreep is still crazy there and you switch from T1 to T15 super fast). LE and D4 most d..sh.. game ever
PoE2 will be brutal (one day)! Show us the patch notes you have provided for us. I've never had so much fun as in PoE2, but could be better. it can always get better, never stop. |

The challenge is plugging that 10th map after the previous 9 maps net you exactly 0 items worth keeping and not enough currency to juice the drops in your maps.
It's tedious for the sake of being tedious and not challenging at all. The devs released 0.2 with more work put into nerfs than actual new content itself and now rather than working on giving us more content to engage with are spending weeks after the update patching some bad design choices like 420% extra monster health. It was no accident things like that made it into the patch, it was one of many clear design choices meant to slow the player down and drive engagement. If they really wanted to drive engagement they should have given us acts 4-6 and 3 classes to play. At the rate they are slow walking content we are looking at another year of EA at least. Four months in and we barely have any new content. |

Without at least some (meaningful) challenge I doubt anyone would care about the game long term.
The gotcha is the where, when, and how that challenge is presented. While I like the campaign well enough it's more of a slog and for non-meta builds it's also more of a battle of attrition. If it were my game to design I'd probably have white monsters as, more or less, fodder ... blues fall into the same group with sometimes a twist ... But rare & unique monsters I do think there is a place to have meaningful combat once you've more or less removed the fodder from the equation. YMMV |

" Idk man, when im mapping im always just stockpiling exalts and regals. I just don't feel like theres any point in spending them because 99% of the time the item is just vendor trash. It needs to drop blue with 2 really good mods or drop rare with at least 3-4 mods. That doesn't happen very often. With a weapon/boots/shield they have at least 3 mods that absolutely have to roll and be high rolled to be worth touching. |
