Build diversity was also non-existent the last patch aswell, every class has 2 maybe 3 endgame viable builds if they're lucky. Then there's classes like Warriors that still are stuck with 3 working skills to build into Leap-Boneshatter-Hammer Giants Blood since the release of the game.
Outside of balance outliers, the truth is that build diversity is never going to improve without reducing attribute requirements on gems and gear aswell as grealy reducing the hard requirements for weapon types on many skills.
Half the classes in the game are forced to invest 40% of their tree into attribute travel nodes and/or to path polymath to even have a working build.
Amazon, if anything, is on the better side of the coin of this issue, it's just lightning spear that blows everything else out of the water so there's not much point in running other builds if we're strictly speaking about power and clear speed.
No build diversity wasn't bad. I used 8 builds that were good at clearing maps alone.
Lightning arrow
Hex blast
Spark
Arc
monk stat stacking herald
gemling stat stacking herald
Frostwall overkill
Herald of fire overkill combo
cast on shock
Archmage - any lightning skill
Temporalis - any class
Basically any class could work.
..................
Now we got lightning spear and warrior. END of meta.

Yes maybe LS is a bit worse in single target scenarios but this can simply be fixed with skills like "Storm Lance" f.e..
Means while most of the other builds struggle through content (Not all, but most) and many of them require a multiple button combo playstyle, Lightning Spear simply clears multiple screens with just 1-button. ^^
You have to decide for one... do you want methodical combat or more so called "POE1-Style" combat?
Because if around 95% of the builds require methodical playstyle to kill just few mobs while 5% of the builds simply faceroll whole screens with just the press of 1 single button, it completely kills the build diversity in the game.
Esp. if the 1-button builds require way less investment into gear aswell than all the builds that are played according to "the vision". ;)
I'm currious how you want to deal with such lack of diversity in future...will those few builds be nerfed even mid-season or all the other builds buffed for 1 season an all together nerfed for the next league?
that just means there is few way to OP builds for poe2 standards not that build diversity lacks...build diversity lacks more in the sense that skill gems are way more restrictive on weapontype in poe2 then in poe1
but "meta builds" dont reduce the possible diversity of builds, its just that those builds are more like poe1 and everyone wants to go zoom zoom...which is fine if you want that, but thats more a balance f-up then an intended design in poe2 so far i understand the intentions of the devs for poe2...
and everyone should know by now that unless its a bug there is no mid seasons nerfs, which is good and bad.

There are no OP builds currently. There are acceptable builds, and there is the trash heap. "Everyone wants to go zoom zoom" gee, you don't say?? almost like the core design philosophy of poe2 is INCREDIBLY unpopular except with a tiny minority of people.
Also, poe1 does lack build diversity as well, but it's not because the meta, it's because they've been shifting towards the vision as well for a long time at this point, and a few builds escape the vision as outliers and they're playable. It has literally nothing to do with what everyone else is playing, it has nothing to do with the 1000 divines per hour. It has to do with the fact that most builds feel awful until you force it to work with literally insane gear. Sure you CAN run flamedash totems, but the gearing requirement for it was ungodly.

POE1 is 100% because of the meta, and has everything to do with what everyone else is playing.
Lightning strike, powersiphon was in all 3 versions of Settlers.
As well as that silly private league nonsense.
All because it was meta. Which you would know if you actually played poe1 in the last century, which it looks like you dont. #novoidstonesever

Yeah anyone using "early access" as the strawman defense gets skipped past, your opinion is irrelevant.
Fully functioning cash shop with gambling boxes. $1000 dollar support packs and everything in between. "Early access" my arse. They don't need more money they got $30 million from EA sales alone without supporters packs.
Just no. Changing a few arbitrary numbers around and calling it hard work isn't knocking it out of the park. 1 person with any degree of intelligence could knock these world changing non-buffs and QoL's in 30 minutes including the time it takes to test.
The reason these non-buffs took a week is damage control and "I decide what is fun" micromanagement. The game could be fixed by literally changing some numbers around but someone at GGG is saying no. I don't want to get personal but I have seen this behavior in engineering environments when someone get promoted for all the wrong reasons.

Yes very true. By mid league LS related semi-good gear will be flipped for 50-100 divs. As you need this gear to earn currency you ain't progressing unless you get a mirror drop and that is winning the lottery odds.
