Let's talk about "The Vision
OP I love the energy, but your thesis rests on a number of fundamentally flawed concepts that have no basis in objective reality, the two most notably being:
1) You discuss ARPG players and Souls-like players as if they are always necessarily different people, ignoring a very large population of people (including myself) who enjoy both genres. I would be willing to wager people who play both outnumber those who exclusively play one or the other. 2) All ARPG players play ARPGs for the same reasons and all Souls-like players play Souls-like games for the same reasons; I don't think I should have to explain why this one is just absurd on its face. " Guy there's a whole section on the store page explaining to you what EA means. It literally says "if you don't want to help us test then don't play EA" like this ones on you guy. |

" This take is hilarious. Top to bottom. Just because you like fast and easy games that don't require you to think for a second doesn't mean everyone else is like that. And yeah, PoE 2 can be made harder for sure and I would prefer that. |

" It looks like there's only 100,000 left, out of 500,000. Your group is getting actively smaller. 100,000 is still a LOT of people. Are they going to buy the game when it releases? Edit: I do actually want to talk about this. I'm NOT arguing that these groups are different people. I'm NOT saying slow paced braindead gameplay is bad. I'm NOT saying fast paced braindead gameplay is bad! I'm saying ARPGs and Soul's-like differ at their core. People are aloud to believe what ever but if you try to combine opposing beliefs, you get war. It's what humans do. There will always be people to fight wars. I want to know WHO started the war. " The game wasn't designed to be fast and dumb like you like it. Why don't you stay with what you like already? |

" I agree with most of what you said, especially this part. A gaming company's first priority should be to make their games fun, everything else is secondary Now I find myself to be enjoying poe2 (pre 0.2) just as much maybe even a little more than poe1 but that's mostly because of the improved graphics/sound design, new bosses feel great imo and probably the hype for new stuff in general, not necessarily because of the gameplay. When it comes to gameplay they are very different but honestly I'm enjoying both poe1 and poe2, however there's a lot of things that bug me in poe2, i understand that they want players to have a slower approach to the game in general and not just blast through content, they removed a lot of the mobility skills, flasks, items etc, however mobs are just as fast and aggresive as they are in poe1, this is one thing that bugs me, but fine the game is harder... yet the rewards are just as flaccid as they are in poe1? Like make that make sense to me. You make the players slower, you make them less tankier, you make them deal less damage, monsters for the most part act and behave just like in poe1 which makes this game harder, and the rewards feel just as meaningless as they do in poe1. Like in poe1 its fine because you can just blast away and grind at a much higher pace, since its very easy and cheap to make a really good build, and even if the rewards aren't that great in time you can get lots of currency, BiS items etc in order to min-max your character, but in here?... This is yet another thing that bugs me. I have nothing against higher difficulties in any game, but if you ramp up the difficulty you need to ramp up the rewards as well, this is the loop I'm used to ever since the 90s when I first started gaming, this is one of the components that makes me perceive a game like being fun, going back to what motomoto said initially. There are also a lot of issues related to poe2 like optimization, bugs, exploits etc which I won't be discussing here and I'm willing to not give them much importance yet, given the fact that we're still in EA. I really think that in many aspects poe2 is amazing and even better than poe1 like for example I love the campaign bosses from their design to their mechanics to the fact that u can't really blast through them and you need to play their mechanics properly in order to defeat them, that's fun for me, but the campaign as a whole I think its too long and besides the interesting boss fights its not something I look forward to be completing every time I start a new league especially at the low pace we're supposed to go through it, Id be fine with anything under 3-4 hours and I know this is doable for some people in poe2, but for the average players is what, 20-30 hours+? And even if you do this every new league, you reach endgame and what then? Sure they will add more and more mechanics but the grind will be just as slow, tedious and boring and if you combine that with the meaningless rewards that you get 99.99% of the time this just makes for a very unfun, unpleasent experience on the long run. Idk maybe I'm wrong and only time will tell, but they should either stick to their poe1 roots where people can just blast through the game without too much effort or investment and just slowly min max their character with the reward system they got there, or they should follow their vision making the game harder in the process but they should drastically increase the rewards so people can min-max their characters much more easier in order to compensate for the increased difficulty. I really like GGG and I hope they will figure something out that aligns with their vision but they have to make it their top priority to make the game fun, this should be even above their vision, many great gaming companies lost sight of this and they are not doing so great anymore... |
