PoE2 was meant as a game for NEW players to get onboard, because PoE (According to GGG themselves) is too bloated and complex for the average casual (Which is THE audience EVERY gaming company SHOULD aim for, there are MORE casuals than there EVER will be hardcore, especially since the HC love to chase away money) to get into.
If you're a PoE veteran, looking for more PoE, this is likely to disappoint you. This is not meant to be a replacement, either. It's SUPPOSED to be a standalone game.
That is they're stated goal.
Sadly, however, GGG is the master of overpromising and underdelivering.
Make of that what you will.

So they fixed it by removing all the interesting complex things, keeping in the complete lack of information and need for 3rd party tools, and makign the gameplay itself "difficult" or a boring slog depending on who you ask....
Nice work, great execution lol

They need to bring back Chris Wilson to get GGG back on course. I don't expect 3.26 for POE1 to be out this year considering POE2 is an unmitigated disaster of epic proportions since the 0.2 patch was released. GGG was far better of under Chris Wilson at the helm.
Just my two cents.
This was the future of PoE. PoE 2 was Chris's vision for PoE 1. Lake of Kalandra and all of the preceding leagues going to back to Expedition were supposed to help transition into PoE 2. Kalandra and rolling Archnemesis wholesale into the core game is why we got Ruthless and why GGG spun PoE 2 off into its own game. Ultimately, we don't know what happened behind the scenes, but I have the suspicion that's why Chris left -- Chris was adamant that PoE 1 still transition into PoE 2, despite the backlash, and Jonathan et al. argued that they should hedge their bets and split PoE into two. Ruthless was supposed to be Chris's pet project as he took a step back, but once that also bombed, he didn't have any reason to stick around. Again, that's just speculation, but... Where there's smoke, etc.
Chris helped create and led the development of a great game that I love. Although I disagreed with an awful lot of decisions going back to 3.5, I appreciate all of the passion and effort he put into the game. But if this is what PoE is supposed to be, I'm not exactly clamoring to bring him back.
Hey thanks for sharing that "backstory" and history behind PoE1 and PoE2...interesting.
Just curious...what are your thoughts on the zoom-zoom..? Did you like that for PoE1..?

I'm only repeating what they have said on interviews.

What vision? Did they actually say and I missed it?
PoE1 was to mimic Diablo 2. PoE2 I don't recall them saying nor do I feel they have any. They're putting a bunch of effort into end-game when the core-game is broken.
- Scaling
- Skill Design
- Ascendancy Design
- Offense & Defense Design
- CC & Status design
- Itemization
- Crafting
The fundamental concepts of the game are half finished or break after Act 3.

I'm glad I am not the only one who feels this way... I really do hope this game ends up being for all of us.
I still would love some clarity about this from the development team.
