POE2 being the main focus is the right choice.

Honestly, this early access period is such a shit show if I hadn't been signed up for PoE from pretty much Day 1 I would have thought this was their first game. It looks pretty, oftentimes to its own detriment (nothing like same color enemies on the same color environs with added clutter to further trick the eyes). They ported over Sanctum and Ultimatum, two of the most hated league mechanics from its predecessor. They mangled crafting so badly it's gambling. At every step, it appears they failed utterly at learning from their 12+ years of experience on developing and working on 1.

A lot of folks came for this because, at one point or another, we enjoyed 1 at some point or another. There's the rare player who has done every league and beta included, but a lot of folks are more like myself, who come and go over the years, whether it's back to 2013 or more recently. A huge part of the initial player spike was the sheer excitement of 'Wait, there's going to be a sequel?!' and wanting to get in to experience it. There were also a fair bit of playerbase from Diablo 4 failing to deliver and Last Epoch players not finding quite what they were looking for, all culminating in the massive numbers they saw.

I guess I'm saying all of this to say that the sustain has been higher than I expected, but I don't see much bounce back from the continued decay unless they get their shit straight, and make it not stink. The campaign is literally the only good thing about 2 in its current state, everything else (besides graphics) is a wild step back from all of their experiences developing 1.

I agree with your. Just cpuple thing I want to add from my side.

"This game is for a bigger audience." The currency system is from PoE 1, and crafting is gambling. No wardrobes, still have so many instances instead of Open World, it has so many loading screens. I understand this is still in EA; it has more time gates than PoE 1. I don't see this game in hope because they brought a lot of game ideas from PoE 1 and how they talked during livestreams. I can see developer mentality and business direction.
- "If you don't like the slow PoE 2 gameplay you still can play PoE 1"

- "If you don't have any league news just let them cook"

- "PoE 2 being the main focus is the right choice" <= We are here.

At least with the news we can just wait for 8-12 months and PoE 2 will be exactly like PoE 1 because PoE 2 won't last 2 seasons.

I see everyone upset, but PoE2 being their main focus and delaying anything else is the correct move to make. It makes sense from a business perspective, as well as whats best for the player-base, regardless of what certain people may think or post on here. It speaks to them paying attention and not just following through on decisions they made years ago, that wouldn't hold up well now. Pulling the PoE1 team for the benefit of PoE2 is a long-term move and one that is good to make for the future.

PoE2 has the potential for a much higher player count consistently, better design, better vision and overall a better experience. I love PoE1, but it definitely shows it age. To continue to pour resources into PoE1 would have been a mistake. The reception for PoE2, even in early access, is much better than PoE1 ever was. The numbers alone speak to that, as the retention a month into PoE2 EA was over 300k, which is much higher than PoE1 ever reached.

Overall its just the right decision. You have far more players interested in PoE2 at this point and its the game that has the potential for the future. PoE1 was great while it lasted, but it's time to move on. If PoE1 does stick around, I could see it getting a new league every 6 months at best, as anything more than that is unrealistic and hopefully they just let it die.

Don't pay attention to people too emotionally attached to a video game. You'll see plenty of interesting (hilarious) posts to read. These people think the devs are their friends and they were betrayed. Sad to see so many people displaying parasocial behavior over a video game and just weird.

I agree with you, the toxicity towards the devs is absolutely insane behaviour, I can't believe all the ragey people are actual adults.

Toxicity? LOL. Asking for updates, a roadmap, or some sort of communication is toxic. Giving honest feedback is toxic. Whats toxic is the toxic positivity from people who want to protect the devs from any criticism.

You got communication from Jonathan, the replies under that post are nothing short of insane.

Because he is basically confirming that they lied since day 1. "PoE 2 won't affect PoE 1 development" while at the same time having PoE 1 devs working in PoE 2.

You can be transparent all you want but that doesn't excuse any wrongdoings that you are admiting to do. Bottom line here is GGG lied, several times, and now we have only PoE 2 to look forward to and a lot of PoE 1 vets don't like what they are trying to do with PoE 2.

They overestimated their capability, like humans usually do.

They admitted to that and are going to work towards fixing it.

But people are acting like GGG personally attacked them by not releasing new PoE 1 league. I get they love the game, but damn, just take a deep breath and give the devs more time.

Again, they admitted to lying about "PoE 2 won't affect PoE 1" while having PoE 1 devs working on PoE 2.

Is not a "personal attack" it is a "GGG lied to us for months and now they need to come clean because PoE 1 is being put in hiatus and they can't keep lying about that".

That is why people are mad.

They've known they were well over their heads for weeks, if not months by this point, given that the early access period was delated 3 weeks as well. All the while, going back for months/years, they've been stating over and over and over that 2's development would not have any negative impacts on 1's league cycle. That is obviously false.

Taking this long to go 'yeah, we fucked it up pretty good' is what has people beyond annoyed, it was a promise given repeatedly, and only now that they are underwater do they go 'uh, yeah. We lied. Ooops.' There's the problem.

I don't feel personally attacked by the lack of a new league, I just feel like GGG had no fucking clue what the hell they were aiming for outside of the three acts of play (4-6 don't count imo, as they're also placeholders) and as a result fumbled nearly every aspect of gameplay despite having a good knowledge background to, y'know, build on what was already working in a more modern, refined approach. Instead they tried to reinvent the wheel and pissed off a very large vocal group of folks, some of whom have spent 4 digit figures (or more) on them over the decade plus of time. I've been here since the very start of things, and I'm not spending another dollar on them as things currently stand.

I think you are a bit naïve. They are not fixing anything, the video was basically "this went wrong, but we will still go the same way".
Needing time has nothing to do with planning time. And they are just not planning any time for PoE1.
They could have relaunched an old event or league with 0 effort. This is no mistake (it may be a mistake, but regarding priorities, time will tell) they just don't want to release anything for PoE1, because it would hurt PoE2.
