Trading... do we all really need to suffer this?

They wont change it cause they want you to visit the hideout of other players and see that fancy mtx stuff they have. Maybe you will buy something too, to not be ahsamed of your cheap non mtx hideout your buyers have to visit.

So I landed on Nightmare difficulty the other day for the first time on a hardcore character at level 48. Resistances gutted, some of the gear dating all the way back to the beginning of act 3 or so, some lvl 20 req gloves.
And I thought to myself: "I have 55% magic find. Should be able to sort my resistances and replace some of the very old gear before getting to Ogham". 7 levels later, I'm yet to find a pair of gloves that is "advanced" enough to not roll multiple Tier 1 and 2 modifiers. I've used the reforge, Finn's gamble, essence crafting, currency crafting. To no avail. It really does feel like the only way to progress is the trade subsystem if you're riding the bad luck wave for too long. Which sucks a lot. And I undestand they want the trade to be the major pillar of the game, so ppl can flex their luck and maybe do some hardcore RMT while at it. But, what of the rest of us? Why are T1 and T2 affixes so prevalent in Nightmare difficulty? Why is the MF not balanced for the average value you can reasonably stack it at during the campaign? Why are essence trapped monsters so rare if using said essences to craft still yields underwhelming items (low tier affixes everywhere!)? I don't wanna trade to play. I wanna play and rejoice over dropping a good item for myself every once in a while. 7 levels and 6+ hours spent crawling through content in search of a better pair of gloves is NOT fun. At all. And I will never touch the trade mechanic. Chances are I'll roll a T4 resistance eventually, with maybe a T4 health and consider that good, even without decent 2nd resistance, attack speed or defense modifier. 'Cause for non-trade players, it's either that, keep crawling through trash rolls or uninstall, I guess? |

Good news! SSF mode = no trading. It's a great mode and I suggest you try it out.
Step 1 is to self reflect.
|
|
" Lol “get good” at rolling specific numbers with a RNG. Teach us how to do that because I would like to win the lottery a few times before I die. |
|
" You know, the point of the OP was exactly that, or I think it was. Why is the entire game balanced around trade? 'cause, you know, SSF has the same loot mechanics and they have to suck a whole basket of onions if said mechanics are designed around trade. I'm pretty sure that a lot of us that don't like trading for the bandaid that it is will be more than happy to roll SSF if that mode would be balanced around not having a trade mechanic. Which it isn't. So your good news are as bad as they come these days, just as bad as some people's arrogance, I'd say. |
|
" Sell a balanced SSF mode. I'd buy it almost every league. | |
|
I actually got used to trading in POE1 and wont mind it in POE2
Auction house in Last Epoch is a disaster, but if devs do it right in POE2 it'll be appreciated |
|
" I understand this is a good talking point that is on repeat non stop by everyone who DOESN'T play SSF, but the game is fine on SSF, the value of each currency/item is completely different though. Plenty of us are playing SSF and doing fine. My suggestion - actually try the mode and avoid reddit for 2 weeks. You're welcome. Step 1 is to self reflect.

" I will have to disagree. SSF as it is here is NOT fine. They need to increase and improve droprates and the game as a whole desperately needs more deterministic crafting early on (it would be fine if the post endgame crafting mechanics, like omen, were not as rare early on). And if you read the forums a bit, you will clearly notice the divide on this for SSF. SSF should come in two flavours; higher droprates and masochist mode for people like you ;) The game was able to attract 3x the amount of people as PoE1, they will be fine splitting the leagues in 3, if they are not able to find a better solution (though I suggested one earlier). |

Ssf is in an ok state, the friction is has is good. If you overbuff base currency you will have a disaster in that you will just be able to spam currency any time you want and it wont be a choice.
That being said, if they add more powerful crafting options or item acquisition systems and tune them around sctrade it may as well not exist for the average ssf player that wants to play 1-2 months then take a break to avoid burnout. |
