Two hours, and I’ve gained 0 experience!

So what does this mean? It means majority of the player base will ALWAYS follow proven build guides, and will seek out the most overpowered builds created by others to guarantee they can actual play the game.

That just how the world works. Majority of people are NPCs whith heard mentality who gets anxious when having to figure things out that is not just doing simple math or geometry.

I can't stand these people "I need to be told what to do otherwise I can't figure it out and that means the game is bad".

Terrible take my friend. I think many people would love to learn the deep complexities of mechanics. And be honest, some of them are not realistically easy to figure out. Take the armour calculations that Kripp highlighted. How do you expect the common player base to figure something like that out.

Reality is, in order to learn all these complexities you need tons of hours in a game. A lot of people are willing to invest those hours but NOT in game thats incredibly time wasting and super punishing.

Gaming has changed. Today's gamers are more into mobile games, console etc... not sitting at a computer theorycrafting. People have busy lives, jobs and have little free time to invest in a game. So when you design systems that require thousands of hours to learn, and make that experience incredibly punishing to the point you literally lose a whole days worth of grinding on 1 stupid 1 shot for example, you take away the incentive for people to sit there and learn and grow.

This is the prime reason you don't see average folks experimenting. Cause they already know that the investment of time required to understand and learn all these mechanics is immense, and they know that if they don't follow a proven guide, they essentially will not be able to enjoy the game and learn it.

YOUR mentality and GGG's mindset creates this problem. Punishing mechanics like loss of XP should be in separate leagues. A standard league should be a smooth gaming experience that ENCOURAGES mistakes and ENCOURAGES learning so people get better and feel like their time is not wasted.

As long as people like you have this poor mentality towards a newer crowd, the meta of "follow the best build guides" will always exist. People WANT to see endgame, WANT to progress and if they know it's not a reality they will not experiment.
Self-made builds are completely fine, if you're getting one shot on T1 maps then it's not "big mean ggg not allowing to experiment!!!!11", it just means that your build is severly lacking and you don't even have basic defenses figured out.
if you're dying in white maps your build and gear probably suck. I'm running T15/T16 and maybe dying once every 25-30 maps

the xp loss on death needs to go. it actively discourages people from failing, which is how you learn. if you don't encourage people to learn your game and have an enjoyable experience while doing so, they leave. anyone defending this garbage is brain dead

Good, let them leave. We're better off without whiny, entitled, self important crybabies around always crying about something
It's a terrible game design that will inevitably kill this game. Just like POE this game is being tuned for a small minority of people who play the game 24/7 as a job. It won't get any better unfortunately.

Yet gear drops are terrible and non existent and are basically the necessary element to all builds. The only thing terrible is people's like you attitudes acting as if you are an amazing poe player. Ots quite sad. The POE community is so toxic and you just fall right in line.

I always hate when pointing out simple facts is met with calling someone toxic, entitled, elitists or BS like that.

Just as an real life example. Lets say you want to run a marathon and start training. If you can only run one km before needing a break and someone tells you, that you need to build/train for endurance in order for you to finish the marathon. Would this also be entitled/elitist/toxic? No. It is just a simple logical fact.

Pointing out that your character lacks defenses is not a personal attack.

And this is the real issue. Not the XP penalty. Too many people think they are flawless and their character perfect and simply won't accept any other possibility why they keep failing, while others can progress just fine. In their mind it just has to be the game.

If someone is failing this has absolutely nothing to do with other players. It has absolutely nothing to with an XP penalty. It simply is just on them. And people need to start realizing and accepting this. If they don't they will never be able to improve or progress. Because with this mindset they are only blocking themself.
