The Amount of Time "Vacationing" is Actually Absurd

Or maybe you did. A company is not your friend and buddy, they release things when they think they can get the most profit out of it, even if it is unpolished.

yes, but its not devs decision. They are just common employees. If they say the game is not ready and the management pushes for release there is nothing they can do about it. There gonna be a release. So blaming devs for taking vacation during national holidays is ridiculous.

Yes which is exactly what I wrote in that reply. Developers should not be blamed, people should not be overly hostile, but GGG as a whole company with leadership should not be fully excused.

Agreed it was supposed to be November and they chose mid December with just 2 weeks to tune it before a break.
Personally (and I am probably in the minority here) I’d have weighed the option of December and a potential PR nightmare or January and some unhappy people but a better chance to handle PR in a timely manner.

I don't think there's any legitimate PR nightmare to be had here. The people who are upset about this are mostly people who are desperate to get everything they want as soon as possible, as soon as they return in January those people will be satisfied and completely forget this ever happened.

Nobody is going to hold a long-lasting grudge in a few months over the fact that GGG took a holiday for a couple of weeks, as long as they return and start delivering. Which they obviously will.

It honestly reminds me of dogs, who think you're gone forevever and in deep despair the second you go out the door, and then they're happy and forget it ever happened the second you come back. Some people just have no patience, and think there's going to be disastrous consequences as soon as people don't get what they want immediately. It'll be fine.

Prime example was Anthem, we saw how that turned out.

As for argument about holidays, for my part it’s not the devs I want about it’s the management responding to concerns and telling us where they are going next when they have the team back to do such work.

Disappearing for several weeks just after your absolutely massive, humongous release is pretty strange. One week off at most, but this long?

Anthem's problem was not holidays, Anthem was doomed from the very start.

I honestly wish it was the norm, I love that they're doing that. Those devs deserve that rest and to spend the holidays with friends, family and loved ones.

I applaud GGG for this decision, for not prioritizing impatient whiners over their employees best interests. I'd rather they treat their devs right so they can keep making a good game, than sacrifice their talent for the sake of quickly appeasing a few childishly impatient forum-naggers.

Let them complain, let them whine. They'll be happy and forget this ever happened once the new content and updates starts rolling out later this winter and in spring.

Never said it was, was just an example of previous posters comment on lack of dev control

I don't know if I've ever worked for a company that allowed you to take vacation 2 weeks within a major holiday either. Maybe we're just slave drivers in America.

That being said a few weeks off for them, while it may suck for us, is not the end of the world.

from what im aware yes, that is an american thing. america is pretty famous in the rest of the developed world for having awful rights, esp workers rights.

here in the uk we have 4 weeks fully paid holiday per year, guaranteed by law. we have to take it, every company ive ever worked for will come to me if i dont book my holiday and tell me i must book it off, sit me down and work out when im gonna be off because if they leave it suddenly everyone needs to take their time at the end of the year and its a massive problem. my mrs had to take 2 weeks off over christmas and new years and her company has to pay her full wage for those 2 weeks, its not negotiable.

in the uk were considered bad too, afaik most of euorope has even more time off than we do. this is considered on the poor end of respecting the rights of citizens as human beings in most 1st world countries.

I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
