GGG desperately trying to reinvent the wheel and ending up with a square.
" SC2 failed to be a compelling sequel because it tried so hard to be an export and ironically failed to live up to BW's status as one. That was 15 years ago. Blizzard has been bad for the better part of 20 years |

idk, I loved sc2 and played it for roughly 2k hours. In comparison to sc1 custom ladder games I had WAY more fun playing sc2

" I don't care if you liked it, the game objectively failed at its target goal. Brood war is still a national sport in Korea, SC2 is not. It was a major disappointment as a whole and if it was the best rts it would have dethroned it's predecessor |

" Afaik sc1 (remastered) is only more popular than sc2 in South Korea - guess the rest of the world doesn't count. Farming salt on the forums since 2024

The core supporters are still the same ones from POE1, that is a crucial point for the progress of POE 2. Newcomers seemed many at first but not so many stayed long enough to became residents. And the old ones would leave if it is not a better game, or at least an equivalent of POE1. Because POE1 has been the standard in that genre.

" I think a lot of the "old ones" will leave as soon as poe1 releases its next league, that includes me Farming salt on the forums since 2024

Welp. I think most of you are veterans of the ARPG genre and in most cases POE1. Prior to POE2 I haven't played an ARPG since Diablo 2. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, although I think it might represent at least a few of us noobs.
The game does at least a few things well. While I agree that it may need more time in the oven than 6-12 months, it's salvageable. I have kept up with later aspects of the game through watching guides and streamers, and I've put a meager 50+ hours in. The game drops off beyond Act 1, which is typical for EA. The passive tree is underwhelming and doesn't feel like it yields many power spikes other than a few key nodes. That sucks as leveling feels inconsequential. It's all about getting lucky with gear, particularly with weapons. Magic find and the bricking of the economy sucks. Trading sucks. The skill, spirit and support gem system sucks and feels bad. I haven't tried endgame but it sounds like it sucks, so I've just rolled new characters instead. Crafting sucks and seems lazy and is basically just a stub yet to be implemented properly. Yay, RNG decided to bless me. There's hardly any planning involved. The resistance system is boring and myopic. It's just numbers that have no strategic impact other than deciding whether you get one shotted or not. The defense system likewise sucks. Evasion, armor, block, energy shield feel the same, even if you can combine them with passives to create interactions. So most everything sucks. GGG needs to revamp everything, more or less, other than the story, sound, graphics, and some boss mechanics. The fighting can be really interesting and I'd be willing to bet that it's what drew so much attention to the game in the first place. Potential players saw the flashy stuff from streamers raving about those positives and bought in. Yeah, it will take a lot of work, but it seems like these flaws are correctable long term... Perhaps very long term. The chassis is already built. I guess the question is, how difficult will it be to transition all the placeholder mechanics and design considerations to something more substantial? I'll keep trying new characters and screwing around in the campaign in the meantime until it gets boring, then I'll play something else while GGG finishes cooking this thing. PoE2: A good, giving game

Game's just cooked right now. It's an over-simplified, worse PoE 1 in every aspect except graphics and sound because of the budget that was used to create the game over 6 years.
It might take a few months to salvage this mess, it might also take years if GGG are stubborn and triple-down on The Vision TM. We'll see what happens I guess lol |
