ARPG and Souls Like are like oil and water, just a match made in hell.

" I have now copied your username and this thread, exactly 1 month from now i´ll either respond in this thread or to you in DM, we will check together how many people are still playing. If it has sunk with 50% or more you will have to explain to everyone that you were wrong as well as apologize for being wrong, 50% is a lot so i am giving you the advantage here. Every veteran of PoE 1 already knows it isn´t good at all therefore we know that it will drop incredibly hard..."buut buuuut why hasn´t it already theeeeeen" The answer to that is that there are still a lot of famous streamers playing that game, they attract an audience as well as Diablo 4 not being good means that PoE 2 EA is the closest thing for them to play at the moment, the true fans will still play a month from now, that´s when we will at least get an IDEA of the population that will STICK AROUND. So like i said, 1 month from now. 2025-01-24. |

GGG took the best aspect of Souls-like games—methodical combat—and combined it with loot-driven progression, creating a gameplay experience that rivals, and arguably surpasses, all Souls or ARPG games out there (with the exception of Sekiro).
Do I enjoy dying and losing my map/XP? Hell no - but removing that mechanic will trivialize the game. |
|
" You do realize that a drop of 50% will still put it right around the POE1 all time high... right? Most POE1 leagues lose 50% after about 2 weeks, POE2 has already surpassed that retention rate. https://poedb.tw/us/League#ConcurrentPlayers |

" The vocal minority don't want things to challenge them, they want the game trivialized. |

No, we don't want the game trivialized. This isn't a binary choice.
We want the punishment toned down so that the challenge can be more reasonably tackled and overcome. the 'get gud' crowd doesn't argue in good faith. |

PoE2 is what Diablo 2 should've been like. I like the reactive nature of the combat system because it's actually somewhat rewarding when you succeed. I would however once again ask for a combat log/death recap with some basic information of what killed me so I can more precisely adjust my build and "git gut".
As a first time PoE player I've really enjoyed the game. As I've started to get into mapping (just started to do tier 12-13 maps), my biggest pain point is exp loss on death and the rng behind getting decent/good gear. As someone who doesn't wanna resort to buying bot farmed currency/loot it's quite a pain to get good gear with appropriate trait. But when it comes to the combat system itself I've very little to complain about, outside of a few performance related issues. |

Thankfully POE 2 isnt a souls like at all. Its actually Lost Ark like in terms of WASD movement and dodging. It feels great.

Problem is being forced to max out resistances 3 x throughout cruel playthrough .
Considering mats arent droping and prices have gone up , what was 5 exalts 5 days ago , now its 30-50 ex or 1 divine. I've leveled 6 characters. Got one at 75 , rest of them are lower and my inventory is after 230 hours of gameplay 100 exalts and not a single item worth over 1 ex EVER droped. This is what you get on your campaign journey in 230 hours. I did some mapping 1-6 and due to lack of useful items droping or curency , i am not able to do t7 maps. I even get oneshot in t4 maps. So im left with nothing but to play campaign over and over again. |

" For me it is the exact opposite, they left out the best parts of a souls like game like exploring, meaningful rewards, methodical combat and mixed it with the poe 1 like disgusiting mess of a visual clarity, explosy, on death effect filled, swarming monsters combat, with stacking punishments (Xp loss, waystone loss, loot loss that you not managed to grab mid combat, bonus on nodes like boss lost). All spiked with extreme rng, from "crafting" to curses in trials. Also it brought in thet very annoying "git good, skill issue" people mixed with the pavlovian reflex answers of "oh you dislike this? you just want everything for free!!!" Out of curiosity, is the chance in souls game to get back your souls make the game trivial? |
