true soul-like doesn't have an endgame.
It's just doing a campaign again but with some challenges.
can't easily expand soul-like vertically. it will be either we one shot boss or we get one shot.
it can only expand it horizontally, aka new map, new legacy, new boss, new weapon, new aow...
You contradict yourself. As you point out, then forget about on the very next line, souls like repeatability is created by adding difficulty levels / NG+. The problem is that ggg doesn’t scale power properly and uses fake difficulty instead of real difficulty to slow down progression. In other words, you add mechanics not exponentially increasing hp/dmg to create challenge.
Wat? We agree on the same thing. I think you misunderstood me and then insulted me.

In my opinion POE2 campaign are just tedious in several ways. I have not seen all interviews, but i have seen them talk about POE2 are ment to be more beginner and casual friendly, and expected a more beginner friendly game then POE1, but it´s the opposite...
- Making it tediously hard similar to a souls like with dodge mechanics are not beginner friendly. Also it´s conflicting design like oil and water.
- Souls like games are designed mostly to play through the campaign and then the game are basically finished. It´s okey it takes a bit extra time and in need to practice boss mechanics, or get stuck in need to farm up a little to progress.
- ARPGs on the other hand with frequent season resets are designed around end-game and frequently level new characters, so it just feels tedious for the campaign/leveling to be like a souls like game.
- Not to speak about the screen clutter and souls like dodge mechanic combo, souls like games have relatively few enemies with telegraphed attacks, so yes, dodge mechanics works good then. But in POE2 the screen are either often so overfilled with mobs you can´t dodge roll even if you try and also the screen often so cluttered with visual effects it´s difficult to even see the mechanics you are supposed to dodge roll from.
- In my opinion ARPGs campaign/leveling need to be smooth and easy compared to a souls like, if you do all quests and pickup/buy all upgrades you come across, it should never be a situation where you character are so weak you need to go back and farm and act to beat a act boss. And i would dare to say overwhelming majority of ARPG fans agree with this, hense the huge amount of copmlaints.
Overall, as the game is now. The souls like/arpg combo just feels like a tedious match in hell.
my feeling is exact opposite.. only the campaign is worth something.. the maps and endgame ... I prefer to go cut my grass than to do maps.
Agree. campaign is amazing. if it easier then it will back to be POE1.

It's time to accept GGG joined the closed club of Blizzard, Bioware, CDPROJEKT. The once great behemots. It was a good run but there's no coming back from this backward misstep.
PoE1 averages what, 11k players? With some peaks at ~200k players when a new league drops? Well guess what, PoE2 that is still in early access and according to you is so bad “there’s no coming back from this” has 400k daily peak players for straight 2 weeks now.
They’re clearly doing something good.
Also, funny how you claim CDPR is ‘once great’ lmao.
All I can say, is git gud noob.

Cope. Marketing attracts people, it doesn’t force them to stay.

Most people are doing acts. Just wait until people reach and spend time in the endgame.

Is that why so little people are playing PoE1 then?
This bullshit doom calling with zero logic behind it is fucking annoying.

They’re clearly doing something good.
Yea its called "timing" and "being new". Check back in a month, or two months when the dust settles. The vast majority of the player stats right now is based on novelty and holiday release timing, not anything related to the state of the game. As long as its playable, there is bound to be a huge explosion of players based on those two factors. Even D4, which was bombed and panned for a full month, still boasted millions of concurrent players for weeks after release. But then they finished the campaign....clearly THEY were doing something right correct? Despite their own apology circuit and campfire chats about how bad the game was.
Don't forget that the game has only existed for 3 weeks, and the average player is only spending a few hours a day or even a few hours a week. Hundreds of thousands of players are just now reaching the 24-48 hours of gameplay, if they are lucky.
But its also the holidays, so many folks are actually GIVING it the time and not quitting because they suddenly have a huge amount of free time. Once life begins again, and (as others said) they reach the end of the campaign, there will be a mass exodus.
By comparison, PoE 1 is an OLD game. Of course it wouldn't attract NEW players all of a sudden. And the vast majority of PoE 1 players right now are 1) playing PoE 2 or 2) bored with the 5-month league (like always). You can't even begin to compare these numbers accurately to make any sort of point.
And then PoE 1 will drop a new league in mid to late january and all of those numbers will shift BACK over to PoE 1 for a while. PoE 2 is actually great advertising for PoE 1 as well.
Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Dec 24, 2024, 12:28:27 PM
