You cannot really compare what it was like 10 years ago. The world and the industry was a different place. POE didn't have any reputation and it looked very bad when the beta came out.

Currently there's no competition in online rpg gaming. There's only fresh wow classic servers and sod new season, but there wouldn't be many players coming here from there anyways.

Also Poe 1 beta came out in 2010 and not until 2013 it was on steam. By that time the majority have been playing on the poe launcher already.

I'd not really look at the metrics of the game right now. Of course the game is good, but it was highly anticipated and people already paid for it to play, and because the pacing is very slow, it's natural for the metrics to be high for some time. It's not like it started with 100K and all of a sudden everyone heard about it and 400K more people bought it. It peaked to 550k literally in 3 days.

People have been emotionally and financially invested before it came out, and they're now playing it, some probably not having so much fun but still got nothing better to do.
For gods sake don't feed these trolls.

Can everyone please stop comparing PoE 2 with Dark Souls or Elder Ring?

This in an Action RPG,
that will be a FREE Action RPG,
with SEASONAL content 2~3 times a year,
including a RESET of the ladder each season/league.

The point is not to make a challenging game that you will enjoy 1-3 times, uninstall and never look at it again.
Having millions of players one time is not the end goal like a full price game as Elder Ring and its DLC.

A player that isn't eventually returning for new seasons and buying MTX/stashes/supporter packs because they simple want to reward the experience they are been provided is a failure in GGG business model.

The game can be hard and challenging, but been primary about dancing with bosses and not about character building will not provide the replayability needed for their business model.

It needs to provide an enjoyable progression curve with lots of options for character building, options for mechanics for different builds and playstyles, while avoid been overly tedious or frustrating with BS mechanics.

It can do all that while been more challenging, shiny/modern and responsive then PoE 1, been less bloated by the decade of content its predecessor have, but that will take some balance to adapt this style of gameplay with the enjoyable endgame loop that PoE 1 had build before it.

I see the patch newest patch to drop as steps in the right direction.

Numbers mean nothing in this case, im part of that number and 98% of the time im afk in my hideout, and im pretty sure im not the only one, and again the game isnt hard, it´s a slog just that, a slog with many balancing problems, one shots left and right in high tier maps from stuff you cant even see, 40% of the mapping time is walking around the massive maps to kill a rare that was left behind, or pick the dozens of breach splinters that drop in stacks of 1, the mapping mechanics are gutted to the extreme, they are not worth doing at all if you dont have points in their trees, and to get points you have to do them, you know how many rituals i have done? probably 50, you know how many invitations for the boss i have seen? 0. So many problems need fixing, it was never about dificulty, i played old school prince of persia and many other games that didnt even had saves when i was younger, and did beat them, so dont come here with that difficulty bs.

That's not what anyone is actually doing, though. Nobody is comparing the entire game.

Souls games simply have several signature elements that are instantly recognizable, like the bosses' heavily telegraphed big attacks, the dodge roll mechanic, the need to have good timing etc.
People are now simply seeing those things in the PoE 2 boss fights.

They're not wrong for describing it that way. Those specific elements are very similar.

For the last 5 years all I've heard is that you want to create an elden ring style ARPG with challenging content and gameplay, within two weeks you've made multiple huge knee jerk changes which are completely going against that vision and those principles.

What are you doing? There is a large majority of people who want challenging content and are enjoying it yet you are listening to a vocal crying minority plaguing reddit and the PoE forums. Please stop catering to these people and don't make PoE2 a reskinned PoE1 zooming around all over the place one shotting all content in the game.

Your notion of difficulty is the same as Souls fanboys.

Well, we were supposed to get a second campaign, new ascendancies, and a complete graphic overhaul for PoE 1, which we waited for for years. And now we're not getting any of that, because they turned all of it into PoE 2, which is nothing like PoE 1.

Excuse everyone for beeing just a little bit annoyed.
