I don't think people praising it right now (nothing wrong with that) will actually be profitable enough to sustain the game (I don't think ANYONE, whether they like the direction of the game or not, will be as dedicated to return every league and play multiple builds a league).

I really think y'all are projecting. You don't like Souls-likes, and therefor don't like the combat. Makes sense, don't play PoE2 I guess. I'm having a great time and if the game stays exactly as it is I will check out every league. No regrets on my $480 supporter pack, so I think GGG will continue to get cash flow to support their passions, whether or not they please everyone (and they simply cannot).

The good news is, they foresaw this problem and opted to maintain both games, so there really is nothing to be upset about.

Thanks mate, I appreciate the support.
"I just want the ability choice to play to not be so obvious to me, like I'm playing D4 and I'm practically deprived of a choice."

This is where I stand on it.

People think this is just whining from the perspective of people who want pixel cancer shitting all over their PC screen, but it's not so.

The root of the real dissatisfaction is that we're used to and we like build freedom. Feeling locked into "The Best Thing" until the best thing becomes the worst thing and doing that on repeat without consideration for time and effort just feels bad.

People got a fun thing in a game that limits fun things and they took the whole style away instead of balancing the numbers. It wasn't a nice approach. That's why people are mad. Most didn't give a shit about the change itself, they just wanted their time compensated fairly.

----

As an aside to outline lack of fun things. If I wanted turrets to shoot my lightning arrows alongside me in PoE 1, I could do that. I could allocate whatever projectile skill I ~really~ wanted into a turret gem. That's not allowed in PoE 2.

Then when I got excited about Stormchain Arrow, like, WOW 10 CHAINS? Turned out it's even worse than the level 1 lightning arrow because it does jack shit for damage, consumes the shock (which is 50%+ MORE damage to a monster) and cannot possibly reapply shock to allow completed chains. It's better to just keep pressing the one damn button. The complexity that was assured would be there isn't there.

With this said, this isn't to say I'm struggling with content, my build is very very strong. It's just not complex, like, I use one skill three times, then another skill 10 times. That's it, boss dead, and a lot of the synergistic things to make things complex are getting torn apart or are being railroaded into not being possible between classes

Lightning projectiles can chain, but beams are different from projectiles that chain? Why? For the purpose of limiting interactions with Lightning Rod.

Hilarious, by the way.

Professional deformation and degradation are not negative, they are ways of describing causes and effects, not words like "someone is an idiot". If a person has professional deformation, then he is at least a professional, no?

I wrote directly in the post that I like the Souls games, I have all the achievements in all the parts, and I did amateur speedruns and debugging. Don't attribute to me something I didn't say. The whole post is about how the PoE 1 gaming experience is infinitely far from Souls. Souls are hand-made games, where every boss and monster is carefully placed, and the fights are thought out tactically. PoE 2 tries to do the same with a monster density of 40 monsters per pack, on randomly generated maps. They slowed players down, but the monsters are the same as in PoE 1, so in fact you just have fewer options. This is not what makes Souls great.

I disagree.
I beta tested poe 1 and played many hours.
I think poe 2 is a great game, fun and going in a fine direction.
I'm very glad poe 1 is still around for people that want that game.
Great that they kept poe 1

Excellent point, I'll add the second part of your comment to the original post as a quote because it really brings up one of the themes I forgot to bring up due to the complexity of the game: freedom. You have the freedom to do stupid things even if they don't work. You can make a totem spit whatever you want, and maybe it will work, maybe it won't, but the point is that you can do it. The value is in the ability itself, like being able to choose negative dialogue options in RPGs - even if you don't do it, at least it's there and it's your choice, and your positive dialogue options then make sense because you had an alternative. In POE 2, as I see it, the alternatives are significantly curtailed. I never liked Diablo precisely because of those limitations.

Everyone saying "All these people praising PoE2 are just tourists who won't support the game financially long-term" are blowing it out their bungholes.

Look at my collection of Poor Financial Decision badges over there. Do I look like a tourist? Do I look like someone who's unwilling to put her money where her mouth is?

What makes any of you so certain that people who prefer this more deliberate and engaging style of game are somehow financially insolvent and unable to spend money?

That is an utter nonargument, and nobody has any damn right to make it.

I think the reason for this isn't due to thinking anyone's financially unstable, it's due to people enjoying this direction of balance being a significant minority.

It's not about PoE2 being a bad game, cause it's not. It's a great game. The balance choices are unfair, unfun, and are making the majority of people want to leave, though.
