Feels like a scumbag moment from GGG
" Then people would bitch that they didn't get a key. No win situation. At least the $30 goes into their budget for the effort. $30 wont buy a family a meal these days, unfortunately its as near nothing as is reasonably worth charging. | |
" The shelter analogy is perfectly fine. It's intent is for illustrating the inconsistency between what's being marketed and what's being offered, not to debate whether shelter is a necessity. And as others love to say, you are free to just go and find another shelter.
try again
It's like promising "Free shelter" to the homeless, then clarifying, "But you'll have to sleep outside in the rain for a few years while we make sure the curtains are in perfect alignment, unless you can pay your way in now". It's technically correct but it turns the original promise on its head.
" Those numbers are probably decided after consulting with both psychologists and marketing experts who know exactly how to hook people into spending more. |

I am one of those gamers who doesn't buy skins and stuff because I think it's stupid.
Poe reddit and forums have complained about paid ea access in other games pretty frequently. I remember the stink people made when d4 had a collectors edition to play earlier. I think is healthy to complain a little when a company you like did something a little scummy, but don't blow it out of proportion. This is how companies operate these days, gotta nickel and dime everything. |
|
" Man, I am tired of people treating GGG like a company which needs money to survive. Why aren't you all treating Blizzard like this? There isn't much of a difference between the two right now. |
|
"The shelter analogy is fine if you want to gaslight people into equating not giving free Beta access to a game as the same as not providing a basic human right. Using this argument is pretty appauling really, it shows a lack of respect for people that are actually struggling and is a pretty clear sign that you are not actually thinking about what you are saying. |

Meanwhile, in every page people who disagree with GGG's model are called poor and urged to go work. Nothing disrespectful here at all, I wager

"Yes, I'm not defending anyone here, trashtalking on all sides |
|
" Disagreeing with their model is totally OK. Every single human being can understand how people dislike the F2P model, payed alpha, payed beta, payed early access. But to go from there to "scumbag" and "broken promises" is not just "disagreeing". If people can't disagree with people without calling them scumbags, the world is going under. But hey, it just might... Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

" Learn the difference between early access and headstart with bonuses. |

" It illustrates perfectly well that you are speaking from a position of total disconnect. I was once homeless for quite some time many years ago, so I can say with absolute certainty that your analogy is terrible in every way. And that last sentence clearly shows that. Again, I think I understand the point you were trying to make, but this isn't it. Pick a better analogy. Literal extortion and predatory monetization tactics (at best) are worlds apart. You'd never use your analogy yourself if you had ever been in such a position, because you'd realize while typing how stupid it actually is. If you really want to make such a comparison, a better analogy would be how games are being marketed with discounts and "freedom", and then you actually get the game and it tells you that you need to buy a DLC to enjoy that section, or that what you bought is basically just a demo level and you need to buy the other levels. I.e. the new Hitman games or Conan Exiles. [3.27] Poor Man's Ward Loop: https://youtu.be/p5NA_Rf2TJU
