Experience loss driving some players away?

Casual player here, and I really do enjoy the game, a lot.

But like many.. the exp penalty is making me not want to play the game anymore.

It's hard to get an upgrade and I don't have much currency to buy or trade for anything. Its very frustrating to play a couple hours and have to deal with lag spikes and desyncs and on top of that have a bs death set me back and lose the time I put into the game.

Someone brought up dark souls and how you can recover your souls. I wouldn't mind something like that. I wouldn't want gear handed to me or an AH where I can't buy top tier gear and just run through the game, but if I spend a few hours playing the game I want something to show for it. And if it's not an upgrade to my gear that's fine, but at least let me keep the xp or have a way to get it back that doesn't require another couple hours. Huge waste of time.

The AH already exists, but it is just not officialy endorsed.

What to do ?

Game is not rewarding ?

Guess what ? There is like 43432 games that are better clones of diablo 2 then this game will ever be.

Get bored or frustated choose your end game here ...
What a bizarre thread. I legitimately can't believe people just want no penalty at all.

What is the point of playing a game if there is no risk or punishment? Nearly every game ever has some kind of risk or punishment if you die.

Would the game really benefit from being a mindless faceroll where no matter how bad you play you will always progress and never get punished? No.

People would run through the game once, maybe do a couple maps and quit. Everyone who wanted to could get to max level just through sheer persistence.

The best builds would all be glass cannons e.g. Diablo 3 softcore and people would just suicide run areas until they're clear.

That is not an interesting or valuable game experience. There is no valid argument against this. If you disagree you do not understand game design.

As for the people complaining about the EXP loss being too punishing in softcore and how it feels like you worked for nothing and sooo much of your time is wasted.... Lol. Just, lol.

You exaggerate how much time/effort is lost for a start. You lose little to no progress and except at extremely high levels 90+ it won't be a big time investment to get back to where you were.

Play hardcore and lose a 60+ character and then talk to me about time investment etc. When you've lost most likely your best gear, whatever you're carrying and hours and days and weeks invested in your character.

have you ever played Diablo 2? it had desync issues all the fucking time. and invisible spells, and lag spikes. get the nostalgia out of your eyes.

people built their entire characters around desync in Diablo 2. you could desync by simply having over 120% faster run/walk, or just by mashing weapon switch.

don't even get me started on hammerdins and how synergies completely ruined the game. not to mention runewords and newer items fucking up the damage output to player life ratio, making you one shot yourself if you were melee and had Iron Maiden curse on you. it was so bad they removed thorns from player-vs-monster

has anyone on this game ever played Diablo 2? what the fuck. i'm going to work or i'd keep knocking it down.

It's worth pointing out that Every. Single. Build. In Diablo 2 revolved around pouring every point possible aside from what was needed for gear into Vitality.
Fixed 15% is stupid coz:

lvl 1 15% is like 1 min.
lvl 80+ 15% is like 1 day...

There should be some consideration in 15% - lvl*some factor = so u get like 0.5% lose on 80 lvl.. Which still be hours to get it back.
I'm so disgusted.

Are you the same person who cried like this :
"
"I have lost 15+ chars to desync... if you haven't that's awesome. But I am an example of a person who has put this game on the back burner because of this issue. During closed beta, this was a non-issue. Not sure what that means, but the game is unplayable for me at this point. And yayayayayaya I stay 5 levels above the monsters yayayaya health orbs blah blah blah 2+2=4

The desync is crippling this game for me."

In omg not know what to do with this dessync kills me plz help thread ?
There is a fundamental misunderstanding between people in this topic. Some guys think that this game should be played for months, or years. Some might play this game just because they lack other shit to do until some AAA title comes out. There is no "correct" motivation or whatever. Each plays to suit themselves as best as they can. You cannot realistically ask anybody to be dedicated.

The answer?

Offer player choices. Let people play their way. Hardcores and casuals do not mix. Casuals become hardcore as GGG hopes only if they are liking the game a lot. XP penalise them, and they won't like the game, simple as that. But they are still useful and might spend money for GGG at one point - until they get bored.

Getting bored is not a crime. This is but a game, not a way of life. You play, get bored, move on.

Offer options, GGG. The community is already split, and won't ever mix in a homogeneous goo. So what if the casuals just want to faceroll the game with no penalty? How is that affecting you, Mr. HC, if it happens in a separate game mode? Let them have their fun. You look ridiculous with your addiction on QQ tears. Grow up.
