I almost fell off my chair from laughing too hard. I do have to point out that this game isn't for everyone, like any game; different people like different things. This game in my opinion brings a lot of challenging aspects that just isn't apparent as much in other games nowadays. Many developers seek to broaden their target audience by making the game easy/dumbed down/telling you everything. This game doesn't try to do that.

Yes, if you dig around you'll find all you need to know about this game, but it's the journey that makes it fun. Think of every time a new patch comes out, people look at the new uniques, skill/support gems, and go, "Oh my god I can make this work!" or "Oh! I just have a fantastic idea to incorporate this!" and therefore prompts players to innovate new/fun builds. More often than not, this leads to prolonging the game's lifespan due to its replay ability factor that has a been a key design aspect of this game.

While many might find this game more difficult/hardcore that others, that is exactly what this game's design philosophy was based upon. Chris doesn't want you to face roll this game like the third iteration of the game that starts with the letter "D" made by the company that starts with the letter "B" and ends in the letter "D."

You can't change people's preferences, and for those that find this game too hard and therefore discouraged, maybe this isn't for you. But I can say for many players and myself that do enjoy this game, you're missing out on what is potentially one of the best ARPG after the release of Diablo 2.

Still intrigues me the lengths the development team goes to make this game incrementally better. Hope you find this post useful.

To begin with, I've played the game for about 2 week or so and I kind of liked it. The passive skill system is really nice and I loved the stone skill too. But after those two weeks, I just stop playing and there's why. There is mainly two reasons :

1) The xp loss. I've played a lot of games where xp loss was part of leveling and I was o.k. with it. But in PoE, the amount of loosing xp is too big for me to enjoy the game. I can already ear the HC player whining 'ya but in HC, we die and bla bla bla'. You playing HC is totally fine with me, but playing it is your decision and you know what to expect. I like playing softcore, but has I just said, grinding for more than an hour an then loose all those xp for one death, not for me.

2) The elitism of player. I was only 56 and when I joined some game with 60's, just to find out I got kick out off the group because my level is too low...and that was happening often, really often...I just remember playing D2, doing some power leveling (diablo/baal runs) and being 50 and lower and no one complained. In fact, people where happy to help each other and so where I with my 90ish toons. So I don't want to piss anybody, but the PoE community is kind of shitty...That is sad because the game is not so bad...

Hmm, you stated in another post that you didn't like the idea of re-rolling. I feel you're missing out a key aspect of this game. They don't want you to just play 1 character for your entire experience of this game! This game was designed for you to try out new, interesting builds and trying to make them work! As for exp loss...I think grinding from 98 to 99 in D2, then die was almost a month's work gone. Every game has bad apples just like in reality. If everyone was hunky dory; there wouldn't be the bombings in Boston. I don't know how you played Diablo 2...without running into the same problems you've stated.

Why does a game have to only cater to a certain group of gamers? POE can VERY easily cater to everyone. They created all types of customs leagues for the races. Why not a league for people who simply want to face roll content. I don't see the harm. It's not like hardcore or default leagues would be affected at all.

Forza is a perfect example of a game that caters to all types of gamers. From my 5 year old nieces to my hardcore car enthusiast dad.

Catering to only a select group of gamers is not only bad business, but bad game design.

I'm convinced that people actually believe that somehow it waters down "their" side of the game - be it hardcore or whatever - even though the heart of this game is a "LEAGUE" system which could facilitate ANYBODIES play style... pick a league that suites you and play it up!

lol you just dont understand. Maybe someday when you get a game you love and have to watch as community members like you slowly tear it apart over the years by demanding casual features until its a hollow shell of its former self you understand that people like you use this "i just want options" rouse as a way to get what you want which will ultimately end up with a game so boring, and bland the only people left playing it are teenagers and kids who don't know any better, WoW is a perfect example of this. you people are never satisfied. Your like locusts moving from game to game sucking the soul out of them then telling the developers they are bad when there only mistake was listening to you.

Standing ovation. Skinny pants wearing generation is destroying gaming. That's why I'm glad PoE is free to play so GGG doesn't have to cater to anyone. I love what they are doing and have contributed 140 dollars so far. The scrubcore casuals aren't going to spend any money anyways, let them leave.

When you start comparing videogames to real life tragedies something isn't right. I think your grasp on reality is gone.
I agree with OP. There needs to be some other sort of penalty instead of the xp loss.

No, making these comparisons actually shows my grasp on reality. A game's economy functions very similarly to that of a country via fiscal policy, how people treat one another shows your ability to socialize in real life and how you maximize your wealth in a self interested way also shows how well you manage your finances in real life. Unfortunately, bound rationality isn't curable.

I'm ok with a league with no xp penalty. It should be called the practice league, there everyone wins. Can tryout new builds, smash up against enemies like an endless tsunami not worrying about having any skill or passive build whatsoever. Nerf the docks, actually just give the community control of the practice league where they can vote on their own rule set and difficulty each week.

I just died 5 min ago at level 94 :(

Was my own fault for shooting at Throns pack on -max resist map...

Sucks man I tell ya that's like 15% I get 1% from a 77 map. So I just wasted 15x 77 map runs....

Probably like 7+ hours worth of mapping almost since I'm not always doing 77s..

I'm not quitting... I'm gonna work twards getting better and being more aware for thorns... Maybe switch chains out even on Throns maps etc..
Learn from my mistake

Quitting over spilled milk just shows you aren't up to improving and learning
