Please do not change existing alternate gems in Standard
What's also galling is that it's quite obvious that these gem changes are simply another beta test for PoE 2. The heavy inference that players should be gem swapping, or using more than one skill in conjunction is straight from the PoE 2 playbook.
At best it's thoughtless and disrespectful to long term players of the game. At worst it's a deliberate and callous disregard of the effort and investment people have put into the game. I really wish GGG would fast track PoE 2 so they can try out all their great new idea over there and leave PoE 1 the hell alone. The whole situation is made even worse by most of the new gem changes being either meh at best, or just complete trash. Why would GGG even bother wasting so much time and effort to churn out this sub-par offering and then top it off with trashing long term players? I haven't paid GGG anything for some years as I was not pleased by their changes to the base game. I guess this just means the status quo will continue for me which I'm genuinely disappointed about. At this point, just give me a stand alone version of the game where I can set it to patch 3.10 and can play offline. I'll pay you $500 and happily go my separate way! |

This change might be the single biggest middle finger to Standard characters EVER in the history of PoE. Greater than the divine exalt flop. Greater than the cluster jewel rewriting. Greater than the mana reservation change. Greater than the trigger change. Etc.
They aren't just removing ONE gem this time (like onslaught)...they are removing HUNDREDS. All at once. Of course not all alt qualities were fundamental to build function, but enough are that I'm surprised these forums aren't in a much bigger uproar over this....the divine thing lit everything on fire and I think this is way more obtrusive. |

"Standard is the graveyard where my stuff goes to rest in peace, i dont think most players care about standard. |

" i had to do mental gymnastics to defend all GGG's past actions and to be honest there were SOME justifications that were reasonable. but GGG kept pulling stuff like this REPEATEDLY. whatever happened to "legacy mods" whatever happened to "drop disabled" no man. its easy to just give standard players a middle finger. its not like we're the core audience anymore. the temp leaguers are the new main core audience. the standard players who've supported GGG since POE's early days are at fault for not learning to adapt. i want to agree with your statement, but to me, its not the biggest middle finger. the biggest one was when they announced POE2 being separate. i will never forget that. " what you think is actually correct. most players now love temp leagues. but most/all standard enjoyers are affected by all these changes that GGG constantly makes. " I can see this being on par (or higher), thats true. But at least for my part...I NEVER thought PoE 2 was going to be the "same" game, no matter what GGG said was their intention. Even when they announced the changes to sockets I thought back then there was NO WAY this would function with all the legacy gear and things that currently exist. I think I even wrote a post back in 2019 saying that the only way GGG would pull off a "connected game" design would be if they fully WIPE standard; otherwise the work, balance, and outrage would be way too much for the game to survive. So...the announcement that PoE 2 was separate wasn't even a negative or positive for me, it was just an affirmation of what I expected to happen. |

" yeah the technical difficulties would be astounding. how do you convert millions of gear automatically and how can you guarantee the conversion process will work properly? as limited as i am in programming, i do have an idea on how they could make the old gear work with the new system. first of all, all old gear and gems becomes POE1 legacy gear and gains a POE1 legacy tag. POE1 legacy gear cannot be interacted with POE2 gear. so you can slot in legacy gems into newer items nor can you socket newer gems into the legacy equipment. this means there are 2 concurrent systems running. however, players get the option to vendor their POE1 legacy gear. vendoring removes the POE1 legacy tag and updates the gear to an updated version. this can be a hassle for players as they have to manually convert their gear. but this allows a more controlled environment, where upon if theres any problems the player can immediately lodge a report and request help from GGG. i m pretty sure this method would allow old gear that allowed 7-8 links to retain their value, and outrage could be minimized and without needing to rebalance the gear. also, on the topic of gear that grants extra links etc, the vendor can display any "rebalance change" before the player accepts to vendor the item for a non legacy version. GGG might have had other ideas. i do not know. but what i do know it is not the players responsibility to figure it out for them. they made the promise, they need to keep it. to me the change to being separate hits in so many different ways. it meant that GGG's words cant be fully trusted it meant that POE is not fully built to be "played forever" it also meant that people like me who threw money at GGG expecting my investment would hasten POE1 improvements all went to a project that i did not want to support. oh and i did try to get reimbursed which expectedly was not fulfilled. im someone who plays both league and standard. i play league purly to fund standard builds.
I will not be playing this game anymore after this update. My account barely recovered from the divine/ex swap. Now 3 builds in standard are pretty much bricked. My 2nd gem tab with nothing but alt quality gems most of which are 21/20 are now worthless and in a tab that will probably never see use again. I honestly dont see how this isnt causing more uproar in the community. Dont think they have realised yet just how many gems and stuff you have removed. even removing boot and glove enchants that wernt even tied to skills is fucking weird imo. Super sad this has happened and the way ggg treating standard players. [Removed by Support]

" a few days ago i posted a meme about how bad it is on std. only around 43 % upvote rate. some people point out some of the stuff i mentioned was inaccurate, thats on me but even then, its quite a good way to realize that standard players have not been the core audience/target market for POE. also even within the STD community, some people take a more zen approach where they simply dont care for it and only see the positives. i actually wanted to "quit POE forever" but the new ascendancy and new gems look interesting enough for me to try out. but yeah.... the amount of disrespect towards standard's player base is mindblowing. " I will try to get new gems too, to see how long it takes to get a specific gem you want. But joke is on GGG, they've successfully cured my attraction to this game ever since div/ex swap. Not only there is 0 reason to buy any more packs, I rarely login at all. |
