Please do not change existing alternate gems in Standard

It certainly feels as if Standard players are being shafted to make development implementation easier.

It certainly feels as if the development team said it was easier to remove the gems altogether than leave the existing ones in standard.

Chris has said in streams that he gets blamed for any design decisions even if he doesn't make them. Well, if you do not tell us the name of the person who actually makes the decision, and no one from GGG ever comes out and owns the decisions that upset players and says "I made that change", how would we know who to hold accountable? Everyone just looks at the floor when tough questions are asked over controversial changes.

For the GGG employee who greenlit this change, do you expect those of us in standard to be appreciative of you deleting our progress in the by definition non-temporary league? Do you expect the standard playerbase to rejoice over the loss of our builds that we spent multiple patches building? Do you expect standard players to spend 3-5 more patches building up characters again and praying you don't once again yoink the rug out from under us?

Serious questions here.

hi

I have five builds on std, all with alternative gems and more than 500 alternative gems that I bought after many hours of playing, I lose everything, this will be the end of my journey

congratulations you GGG
Needlessly positive bump. 6 days remaining to grow a conscience and either convert existing gems to transfigured or add currency to compensate.
I realized it was confirmed on stream there wont be transfigured gem replacements for support gems?

Why not let standard players keep the alt quality support gems then?

So the plan is to remove 800+ sources of build diversity, and replace these with
"different" versions of these same items, locked behind arguably the least popular content in all of POE? And just to be sure this stuff never, ever infects league, the plan is to flat delete all the hard work standard players put into obtaining these items since 2020.

This is your plan GGG?

Just want to confirm I understand it right.

Sucks to have them blanketed removed/changed since I spent a lot of currency on buying alt gems this league, but then I don't really care about standard, so the currency that goes there is 'dead' too.

I suspect the reason they've done it like this is that it needed a lot of code to support all these variants, plus bug fixes, so by removing them and replacing them with a new system, everything will be easier going forward. Can't be easy to maintain a game with so much content, much of it from years ago. Sounded like this was part of the reason Metamorph was replaced too.
i do agree its a bad decision and they should respect their players more when it comes to this stuff and do it differently. im fairly sure they could have found a way to let the gems remain, its shit of them not to do it and every time they do this they lose a bit more of our respect for them, our good will.

but that said, the ship has sailed. its almost certain its coded and tested this way now and theres 0 possibility for them to go back and do it differently even if they really wanted to.

people with builds on standard... for 10 years now your standard builds have been getting fucked multiple times a year and require complete rebuilds endlessly. are you not just used to this by now? the first 20 times it happened to my builds i was annoyed, at some point does it not just become taken for granted?

dont we have enough gear there now to equip 100 different characters that could destroy the entire endgame ezmode style? they break a build, 2, 5, whatever, how many times have we just rebuilt the thing within the new metas and carried on blasting?

is what it is, we know this is how the game works by now. we lost money, but if we lost a mirror to nerfs in the last decade we have mirrors worth of profit over the years because of legacy.

i think standard players just need to emotionally disconnect from the game, the devs have shown us by now that its not healthy to actually give a shit about our items in poe. as abhorrent as that is to their entire design philosophy for whatever reason [Removed by Support]
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

+1 Just deleting gems worth a fortune from standard is even worse than changing exalts to divines. Some was worth a significant amount and collectors like me have a significant amount who a totally wothless in comparision. I understand you would take the gems out of heist, and change the lab run. So far so good. If you absolutely needed to change the gems atleast change the Divergent etc to one of the new special variants, and not to their base ones. Even easier you could just keep divergent and those and just change their stats and not names.... Just deleting them completly is just a bullet at every standard player you have. I hope you use the last few days left and atleast change those alternate gems to neew alternated ones and not their base to not wipe out all standard investment into those gems.

I will admit I gave up on trying to make good characters. I just horde currency. And by god after I lost 18k exalted orbs in value, I learned to diversify said currency. Fractured orbs, eternal orbs, locks, mirrors, legacy items, etc.

I do have hope that PoE will eventually go quiet enough with PoE II that I can safely spend some money on a real build. Someday in a few years. Hopefully.

I play the long game though. The REALLY long game. I would not fault anyone else for being upset at your builds getting wrecked. It sucks.

+1

This is actually quite true and it had an effect on me that I don't think GGG really wants (financially). A few years ago I stopped actually caring and that made me slim down dramatically on what I have and what I collect, thus having the effect that I have more empty stash tabs than ever and don't buy any more new ones - because: for what?
We have to accept that one major part of what made Diablo 2 so successful - being able to enjoy old chars and items - does not really exist for PoE.
