" You have mediocre defenses for a t16. For t5 that would be decent. A lot of your "defense" also comes from the map mods you run. And you said you are doing Expeditions - some of the mods there are very dangerous/even deadly. Expedition mods in combination with dangerous map mods can go through even very thick def layers, so 20k armour and 78% all ress is a cake. If you have a map with double elemental dmg mod, -max ress, less armour, and on the expedition mods you took extra monster damage, etc. - this alone is enough to create 1shot situations. Now also maybe you are running Searing exarh and you took "nearby enemies gain X% of phys as extra fire". These mods alone might seem as insignificant, but the combination of those will 1shot you, a lot. If you feel you have enough damage - take atlas -25% mob damage keystone. Also find a way how to auto-curse monsters with enfeeble. Enfeeble + map mod eill reduce initial monster damage by roughly 50% (before your mitigations) - this is very significant. And this damage recution will also make your other defenses more effective (for example armour is ignored if the hit is high enough. So you reduce initial hit - your armour is more effective). Just try running few maps without dmg mods, carefully pick remnants for expeditions, with a -25% mob dmg keystone and enfeeble curse. I can guarantee - you will reduce your 1shots by like 95%. Others also told you enough advices on how to increase your character defenses. I gave you some tips how your choises and behaviours can save from 1shots. I leveled couple characters to 100 via mapping, and I know how to set-up yourself not to die in maps. When you get 0.3-0.5% exp per map from 99 to 100, dying is just not an option :) Taking Elemancer and Golem commander would give you +2 max golems and would increase their buff effect, plus more importantly would free up necklace slot. In this necklace slot you can use Impressence with free Enfeeble aura: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Ancestor/35XZpqks5 You link enfeeble to increased aoe + make it as aura (plus your elementalist aoe) - you basically auto cover whole screen with automatic -25% dmg aura. My current RF character has 40k armour and 88 all ress, and I still get 1 tapped from time to time.. :) mostly expedition in combination with delirium Last edited by gageris#1266 on Aug 26, 2023, 6:51:58 PM

Generally, Unfortunately the way this hand weighs is the want a bunch of armor and evasion. Whatever you think you need. Triple it.
The armor and evade formula gets worse with monster level and the damage a bit does. Mix that with like 4 layers of reduced damage taken, fortify etc. Add in block or suppression Get recovery. Get rare mods that convert damage taken. Get one shot anyway. |

Stop complaining. With my crappy div~3 character I can clear delirium + wrath of the cosmos altars easily without dying (as long as I avoid any chaos mods that is, not that hard). Haven't died a single time from level 95 onwards and I'll be level 97 soon.
Of course, there are many other ways to not die in a single hit, you gotta look them up. |

It's hilarious that a guy comes here with his relatively tanky vanilla elementalist, a perfectly reasonable build to make by a casual player and the other guy shows his Lightning coil triple gem flask pathfinder, with physical taken converted to elemental, to say "you have to be like meeee".
OP, you took a good effort to make a balanced character, but, glancing blows is something you would take if you really want to go hard on effect on block synergy, it would be better if you got to around 50% normal block. In my experience, 5k HP is not enough for this kind of character, especially since you skip bastion of the elements. Getting higher damage also means you get to spend less time around problematic mobs giving them less chances to highroll you. All in all, characters without evasion and suppression tend to feel less tanky, especially in maps. But, the most important thing is to consider the map you are running. If it's not one of the "ignore everything, don't interact with the game" builds, and is something that you've made, you need to recognise it's weaknesses and avoid the things you are weak to or at least pay extra care. Spell suppression in particular seems rather problematic to me. It is good as a defense layer for the right side of the tree, but characters like OP's should not feel obligated to take it, in my opinion. Last edited by DeLJaDe#6233 on Aug 27, 2023, 12:00:49 AM

this is what happens when people dont read keystones or mapmods
runic monsters hit like a truck and ritual mobs usually have 2-6 auras from rares d:-D*

" Not at all what I said. The guy thinks he is tanky but isnt. It was an example of what serious tankiness looks like. Nothing more. Plenty of ways to skin the defensive cat in this game that arent that build. Pathfinder is just one way. |
