Boss reset on death in PoE2 will be a deal breaker IMO

More than anything else that GGG is changing, Boss reset on death will have the biggest ramifications on the game, the health of the game, and what happens going forward.

People in PoE who are currently dying to bosses consistently but still winning due to six portals will quit PoE 2, there's no way around it. There's no getting good for them. There's this misconception, I think, that people don't worry about dying, and that isn't true. No one wants to die to a boss, or in the game. It happens though, because of lagging reflexes, eye sight, age, whatever. How many times will people like this try the first "Brutus" and give up? A few hours? A few tries?

Then there's the fact that from what we saw bosses take a long while to kill in the campaign, that's an issue too, because the longer a boss takes to die, the more likely a player is to die from a misstep.

Then there's the addition of the dodge roll. Yeah...some people will get it, but a lot won't, it isn't something that is common in ARPGs. There's a lot of muscle memory to change. A lot.

But beyond current players, what new players will want to play an ARPG with this boss mechanic? Fans of Dark Souls? That's about it? Will the gain of these players off set of mass exodus of casual players?

As for me, I'll give it a shot but...I don't play ARPGs for a Dark Souls experience. I uh...play Dark Souls if I want a Dark Souls experience, well, except for DS2, that game can kiss my...

Now maybe you are thinking, but wait! Other ARPGs reset bosses! Yes, they do, but the thing is, the games aren't as difficult to begin with, so the player isn't already worn out and exhausted just getting to a boss like in PoE.

But hey, maybe I'm wrong, but, as someone who struggles against harder bosses in PoE, I can see how that experience translated to every boss in the game would turn off a lot of players.

You can just not die and use portals. And i think bosses on maps dont reset when you die. It would be insane to have to do ubers on one life.

That aint fair some people simply arent interested in challenges but still support the game.
This should be the way it is in PoE:Legacy. The bosses life should reset on death like they do in ruthless.

Cheesing through by brute forcing death after death probably should have never been a way to get through the campaign in the first place.

If the devs make the bosses harder then they can start considering making their loot tables better.

I got some badge.. I can reply.

Well, stop worrying about something that has yet to materialized and experienced it yourself. Just enjoy your life, enjoy the present and embrace it when it comes.
The beta will be TONS of fun since all mobs will be overtuned. Remember A4 piety & mala?

Imagine going against some damage sponge 2-shot mofo with adds that swarm you so you can't use that mini-roll. At least demon souls was fair, man.

Thats a hell of a rationalization u doing here, based on underleveled and undergeared chars in a game thats far from finished, let alone balanced.

But to take your arguments serious for a second:

- you say that people kill bosses right now because they have six portals, and those people will stop because they wont be able to kill bosses in PoE2. And then you say people dont enjoy dying, which they do now more than ever based on your argument. So why are they still playing? First logical fallacy right out the gate.

And then u have the audacity that people cant improve. Like okay, you were born with the entire skillset u have right now and havent learned a thing yet? Honestly man, less typing, more thinking.
A similar system also got a lot of pushback, but you know, Dark Souls is also considered a genre defining masterpiece that pushed a company from relative obscurity to the focus of game design school and massive 'blockbuster' game sales any time they release any game. That a random gamer knows what Armored Core is now is a sign of the times. Heck, Darkest Dungeon is another great example of that, an almost instant classic, and the 'hard' mode basically only added a game over. But a ton of people bounced off the 'normal' mode because the game did take cheapshots.

There's space for hard games, and PoE is definitely a game that embraces that idea, and always has, it's never shyed away from brutal complexity, even to spite itself at times. And it asking the player to 'do it right' in one go, is not a great leap for its typical player. Yes, it can be frustrating, and yes, 100% it will peel some players out (particularly those who HATE losing), but PoE's never really been 'for' that player.

But it will reward the player who wants to know they never had the option to brute force a solution. That the game does in fact require them to go back to the drawing board now and then. And not every game can offer that, and that's the niche PoE aims to live in.
just get good game not that hard

This is just a matter of balance. If bosses are too hard for properly designed builds then they deserve nerfs. If your build can’t do any boss at all that’s probably a problem with your build and/or skill not the reset mechanic.

D3 had boss life resets on death and is widely regarded here as a casual and easy game. It’s all about the balance.
