We are likely never gonna be as powerful as in Crucible.

why even waste so much time making the "perfect" crucible tree when the weapon is just going to rot away in standard? (i dont think any of the 40/40 guys play standard)

edit can you even take them to standard after league ends? if not then let me ask again why waste all that time/effort?

Because to a lot of people, that's the draw of the seasonal approach. The journey. The road upwards in a new/changed environment/economy, with new goals - and sometimes new ways of reaching those goals. The fun is getting there, not being there. In a game/genre all about progression, what are people supposed to do with perfect items in a permanent league?

It's not "wasting time" if you have fun. Well, not more than other hobbies.

was crucible fun though? channeling for 6 seconds then killing a bunch of OP mobs that dont even drop anything. then finally RNG combining 100's if not 1000's of weapons just to get the right combo. if this is fun to them then cool

The issue with leagues will always be that "fun" is subjective.

Taking out performance and technical problems, which GGG does have from time to time, overall opinions each league will vary.

From a numbers perspective Crucible was GGG's biggest and most successful legaue in their history, and by a wide margin at that. Now how that translates to a player experience? Well I'm not sure it matches up. (I personally think there have been much better leagues)

Apparently not for you. But for OP? Clearly he found some parts of the league fun enough to enjoy it to 40/40. And several thousands of players are still playing, so someone is finding it fun.

You have the internet. You should probably stop being surprised at what other people find fun/interesting.

Glad to see that you're starting to agree with me that popularity/numbers is not equal to quality or player experience.

Crucible is no different, really: It offers a lot of power for average players if they're willing to learn the mechanic and farm a few hours during the league (4? 5? 6? Months). Does Crucible offer more for dedicated players? Yes. A lot more? Yes. But as we all "know" that Crucible wont go core, I can't see how it's such a big deal in a league here and there.

Crucible is different. It's like 40c to attempt smashing 2 passives together and it takes a few tries. These 2 passives alone can be conributing to more than half of the power of the League mechanic. How is that not something most people can take advantage of? The only barrier is ignorance and unwillingness to learn partly thanks to GGG's design philosophy of letting players figure things out and not sharing much concrete information.

After 2 passives are done it's step away from third passive - you might not even need to use Imprints here yet depending on what items you are smashing. Crucible couldn't be more favourable to as many people as it does. And unlike in previous Leagues high-end is not just for 0.01% this timearound, high-end is accessible for any dedicated player (which are many, if not most), again 20-40 Div is average for tree without Rampage. Which is also unprecedented.

Zing!

Not really what I said though, and I'm sure some do actually believe Crucible was "peak PoE". I simply said it might not match up.

But we don't have to go down the popularity rabbit hole. Data/metrics are one indicator, not the sole, and there is always context.

Popularity bias is a thing to be sure, but also both can be true simultaneously. Popular and good happen all the time. It's not a mutually exclusive situation. Self Awareness is ultimately key here.

You've never been as powerful as you've been, since Metamorph.
Well, they usually don't keep OP mechanics in the game (or stuff they consider OP)

Personally, I find crucible good, but the way you intereact with it is incredibly boring.

Maybe it comes back reworked somehow in the future, like what they did with harvest.
