100% spell suppression is hard to get and it's pretty useless
still get one shot in almost every map. yes my resists are capped as well. like what is the point of 100% spell suppression if it barely does anything? even with magebane it was really hard to finally get 100%. i think i was around 1500 dex before i hit 100%. feels useless when its really hard to get 100 %

A single defensive mechanic, no matter which one it is, will never make you immortal or even tanky. There are 5 damage types in the game that come in 3 different forms each (spells, attacks and dots) being tanky requires a decent level of defense against all of them. Spell suppression covers 1/3, that's it.

You have no other layers of defense there's a reason why it's meta and literally one of the most powerful defensive mechanics and why people want it gone don't go saying it's useless when you don't even know how to make it work.

why is it so hard to get then if it does almost nothing? just to waste our time ? capped resists and 100% suppression should be enough not to die in every map.
i swear this is the most unfun game i have ever played. |

" i have capped resists and armor. what more do i need? you do realise some builds cant fit in 50 different defensive layers? Last edited by Lyutsifer665#1671 on May 9, 2023, 1:13:46 PM

I think you are thinking the wrong way. Monsters, damage and dangers don't evolve around your character. The "build" is actually the combination of things you put together to adapt and overcome what the game throws at you.
If your build can't stand up to the content you test it against, it is just not good enough and you should change it. Spell Suppression cuts incoming spell damage by 50%. I would not call that useless. But if you are sure that it does nothing for your build, then spend the skillpoints where you feel it is a better investment. capping spell suppression is damn easy lol
The right side of the tree offers more than enough nodes along the way to fill most of your 100% and you even get to ditch most of the nodes after your gear is well optimized. Heck I wish it was so easy for the left side of the tree to get the 100% done or even get 75/75 block just as easy as 100% spell suppression. But as everyone else said, having capped spell suppression and max res isn't everything. It's literally the bare minimum for your character. Having decent armor or life is also a thing, or a high evasion rating or es is also a thing as additional defensive layer Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

IME spell suppression is very good if you have covered the more important other defensive layers. For random mapping in softcore you dont need 100% though.
So if you have many random deaths while mapping its probably that you havent covered those other more important defensive layers. And capped resists are kind of not enough in current PoE - you sort of need to sufficiently overcap them. No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

Spell suppress is the best and most accessable defensive stat against bosses in the game right now. The only other stats with similar power but less accessability are:
- damage conversion (like phys taken as elemental) - life loss occurs over time (petrified blood/progenesis) - armour applies to elemental / chaos damage taken (fourth vow, transcendence, armour mastery) Chances are you're not dying to single big spell hits in maps but because you're neglecting other things like dealing with ailments, EHP, recovery, avoidance or maybe it wasn't even a spell. The damage you take in maps isn't black and white. You can't just slap on a stat and call it a day. The game wants you to figure out solutions for your deaths. |

" yes i'm just trying to do random mapping. what are the other layers you talk about? |
