Why is pathofmatth banned?

Math is a little self righteous and stuff but he's not wrong on many points. He got him self banned for saying it in a way that got him banned.

The changes to the game are absolutely awful and Chris is uh...( hmm how to say it without getting banned) a interesting guy, making interesting choices. It's like he doesn't mind the game going down the crapper. Fascinating business choices. I thought he loved this game. Clearly not.

Eh, this sets a really bad precedence to me. Path is hated, so everyone is pretty happy it happened, and I personally cant stand the guy, either. So I'm not exactly losing sleep over it.

However, gaming companies banning people from the game because of what they say on twitch/social media sets a very bad precedent. Imagine all the people who bash Bobby Kotick, Ian, etc. What if Blizzard just started perma-banning these people from their games because they didnt like what they heard.

I feel like this would be way more warranted as a Twitch ban, since he was saying things I thought was not allowed on Twitch, moreso than banned in PoE.

Again, before I'm labeled as taking his side, I have no sympathy for this guy getting banned. He's one of the most unlikeable guys in this community. But I also dont like the idea that gaming companies can just start banning people from the game because they dont like what they have heard. You can go to just about every game channel on Twitch and find someone flaming devs/ceos/etc of whatever game they are playing.

Again, I think I would feel better about it if Twitch was banning him/them for personal attacks, than the gaming companies banning them from their games.

Well said, but section 17 of the ToS says that GGG can ban for any reason whatsoever.

If they don't like your pink shirt, they can ban you for it and reserve the right to offer no explanation.

Edited for correction.
Let each player choose which version of PoE to play:

Well said.

After reading the ToS again today, I believe GGG's only direct recourse would be to instruct PoM to remove all his PoE content. They can request that of any content creator for any reason as per the ToS. But they have no basis in the ToS for banning him for something he said outside of the game, website, or forums.

And then any offended person can personally file a complaint with Twitch if he feels that he was personally attacked. It's then up to Twitch to determine if PoM broke the Twitch ToS. Similarly with any other platform that may have been used by PoM.

You may want to reread this part:

"
Cancellation of Membership: Grinding Gear Games reserves the right, acting at its sole discretion, to refuse to accept your registration request for a Member Account. To the greatest extent permitted by law, Grinding Gear Games also reserves the right, acting at its sole discretion, at any time to cancel your registration and access to your Member Account or to restrict, limit or otherwise change your existing rights of access to your Member Account, or any specific feature or benefit afforded to you in relation to your Member Account, including without limitation in respect of any Virtual Items, if it believes you have breached these Terms of Use or any other agreements you may have with Grinding Gear Games, if you have engaged in behaviour which Grinding Gear Games deems in its sole discretion is not in keeping with the intended spirit of participation in PoE or for any other reason whatsoever. In such event you agree that Grinding Gear Games will not be required to provide you with prior notice or explanation in respect of such action. Notwithstanding the cancellation of access to your Member Account in any case, you agree you will remain fully liable for any outstanding liability owed to Grinding Gear Games. Grinding Gear Games may also, where it believes such action is necessary, without notice block IP addresses of any users who have breached the Terms of Use.
Thanks for all the fish!

Notwithstanding the "is it legal?" arguments, the Terms of Use seems to pretty clearly assert that GGG can ban players for any reason whatsoever. Repeatedly and publicly maligning GGG staff on Twitch (if that indeed is the reason, we'll never know) falls pretty clearly in the realm of "behaviour which Grinding Gear Games deems in its sole discretion is not in keeping with the intended spirit of participation in PoE or for any other reason whatsoever."

so funny when people defend multimillion dollar company who ban a guy for things he said outside their services XD is always really top comedy ggg next should ban everyone on forum who says anything negative about them that would be so funny hahaha
deserved ban never liked the guy
I'm glad to see so many people actually coming forward to say "You should just not say bad things about someone duh". That's very sweet, but a little innocent too.

I'm going to bet there are far MORE people right now thinking... dang I probably called Chris some bad names on twitch before myself. Forgot my account was linked at the time. Whoops!

If you're wondering about me, I got no twitch account so I'm good.

Why would that matter, someone could just screenshot it and send it to GGG. You don't think they found out about him doing this because they were watching his stream do you? Naw someone reported it.

You all miss the point. He said this outside of this game and forums. How is it staff abuse? It's only staff abuse if he said this in this forums or in game.

Are you serious here? Like really? So I can throw rocks at them because i did not do it in the game or at forum?
