Not sure about throwing rocks, BUT you can say whatever you want about Chris Wilson you just won't be able to play his game. Let's just get that straight. No one is going to actually be able to keep people from THINKING or SAYING whatever they want.

You're correct. I missed that part of section 17. Thank you for pointing it out.
(I actually just read the same quote in the whale thread and was coming back to edit my post.)

We're all at the mercy of GGG at any time.

As an aside: That particular phrasing could possibly be voided for being unreasonable and one-sided - at least according to Danish law, which could apply when they choose to sell to Danish customers (we have quite strict consumer protection). I don't know if NZ legislation has protections against unfair agreements. I'm not sure how that would play out and no one will ever sue GGG to find out.

Correct. They'll just leave for a game where they won't feel like someone is spying on their words.

Why would that matter, someone could just screenshot it and send it to GGG. You don't think they found out about him doing this because they were watching his stream do you? Naw someone reported it.
Yeh but he was live while he bad mouthed the owner. Its different.

To be clear I'm not saying they shouldn't ban him, I'm saying let's be real here. A LOT of people could be banned for doing the same thing, as in talking trash about GGG on twitch.

So sure, that is one person who was banned. I'm sure that affects him.

Now everyone is sort of implying that GGG has every right to do it, but forgetting that THEY also will suffer the consequences of their actions. If someone out there who does not even play the game, decides to make a video talking about how GGG bans their own most dedicated players for badmouthing... how does GGG stop that? If only even 10% of the playerbase doesn't like this decision, then that is like 10,000 players who don't like it.

GGG could have just let this slide, but no, they chose consequences. Meanwhile, I'm so glad that you feel that it was all worth it to ban one guy who is going to end up being twice as famous after this whole thing, and also probably get more twitch viewers in the end. You know how the internet works, and so does GGG. No one should be surprised when there is a backlash to this. They chose this.

I'm glad to see so many people actually coming forward to say "You should just not say bad things about someone duh". That's very sweet, but a little innocent too.

I'm going to bet there are far MORE people right now thinking... dang I probably called Chris some bad names on twitch before myself. Forgot my account was linked at the time. Whoops!

If you're wondering about me, I got no twitch account so I'm good.

I'll go ahead and put forward that if those words commonly come out of your mouth or anyone else, then yeah, you should be ready for some consequences. On the internet, that tends to mean being banned. In real life, it tends to mean worse if you say it to the wrong person. Don't take that as me condoning violence against someone; I don't. Just the reality of real life consequences.

The people who make this game are humans. Not just some name or image on the screen. They deserve constructive criticism about the game and that's it. Just because they work for a very public game does not mean they are personally open to being attacked. And even further, although Chris Wilson is the public face of the company, the words used to attack him will never be okay. Can the government come after you for those words? No (depending on where you live of course). Is GGG a government entity and bound to protect your freedom to say whatever shitty thing you want? Also no.

It's also worth noting that a government telling a company that they can't ban someone from their [thing] is an infringement on their freedom of speech as well.

Normalizing what was said is not okay. And in response to your assertion that we're all wondering what we've said that might get us banned: nope. The words used by him have never left my mouth -- nothing even close. I like to think I'm not the exception on this front, and that the internet just aggregates some of the worst habits into the same place so it seems like a lot. I hope.
Thanks for all the fish!

People, Everyone:

Freedom of Speech is a very bent concept that most people don't understand. Here in the USA it means you cannot be arrested for the things you say, and even that has holes in it.

Because this is a private civilian matter, the field is as level as you and I talking to each other.

What is the value of my own life when it is taken from others so easily?

Again, I understand the legal rights of GGG to do this. I'm just saying that a ban in a video game is meaningless, you guys think it really matters? One guy getting banned is nothing, Public Relations is EVERYTHING.
